Budget Production Laptop
So I've been shopping around for a laptop for my (very) slim budget and tight workspace. All I know so far is that I need at least 4gb RAM, an Intel processor, and the model shouldn't be more than a few years old. I'm using an Audiotrak Maya 44 as the audio interface and Reason 5. What other specifications should I know?
Re: Budget Production Laptop
I suggest Lenovo or Asus. They have great computers in the 500-750 range(which is considered budget).

Re: Budget Production Laptop
Would I be wrong to recommend a Quad Core processor? Apparently they're just so good for keeping the pc running smoothly when you're doing a million things in your DAW.
Re: Budget Production Laptop
i say save up for a macbook pro
Re: Budget Production Laptop
If you are going to do anything, don't do this. OP uses Reason, not Logic thus there is no point in him getting a macbook.jackg wrote:i say save up for a macbook pro
What is your budget, cp101 was on the money with Lenovo and Asus (more so Lenovo) Scan.co.uk do some very good laptops specifically designed for producing music.

logic
peak
audio units
slightly more stable
no viruses
elegant operating system
i use and like both but mac does have some nice perks.
Re: Budget Production Laptop
didn't see that u use reason
for windows i'd say look into falcon.
they make sum bad computers.

I don't see how costing 3 times as much for a designer kids toy is a perk.aeser wrote:digital performer IrrelevantEDN wrote:If you are going to do anything, don't do this. OP uses Reason, not Logic thus there is no point in him getting a macbook.jackg wrote:i say save up for a macbook pro

peak There are many other pieces of software which do the same things as peak software
audio units What's wrong with vst's? They a bit too widely used? oh and...slightly more stable Depends on what computer, I would wager money on an ADK or Scan computer being just as, if not more stable than an out of the box Mac.google wrote: No results found for "audio units in reason".
no viruses Wrong
elegant operating system Unecessary and no more functional than windows7
i use and like both but mac does have some nice perks.
And in favour of windows....
At least 3 x cheaper/more powerful
ALL of the other software
Better driver support for almost all of the hardware.
U jelly?

Re: Budget Production Laptop
sure there is. macbooks are great machines and run very smooth. in fact every pc i have ever had either died, or bogged up so much it was barely usable. this never happens to macs. plus there just a lot more simple and fun to use.EDN wrote:If you are going to do anything, don't do this. and the operating system is lighter so it leaves more cpu for other tasks.

I picked one up a couple of months ago and its so good. You asked for a budget laptop and for 400 and odd quid you can
get a 64 bit machine with an i5 chip you cant complain at this one.

from personal experience I would save up for a mac!
I had problems with every PC I've owned and not a single problem with my Mac.
Edit: But if you absolutely know you can maintain a PC then I don't see why not.

Re: Budget Production Laptop
honestly i was producing on a very shit comp, then i invested in a G56 HP awhile back, its treated me nice, 3gigs 2.3 250gigs but i plan on investing in the new version soon which is 4 gigs 2.5 or 2.6 500gigs for only about 150ish usd more, about 500-600, i personally love hp and have had 0 problems with them in the past. i dont want to switch to mac so, i base my decisions completely off experiences with PC for djing AND producing(producing being the area giving me problems computer wise) gl my friend
SoundcloudLOL I am just starting to use FL for dubstep and this is the only vid that showed me how to open Sytrus! Thanks, at least you helped me out.

I'm a PC guy all the way, for whatever reason Macs piss me off to no end. Looks like the Acer Aspire 5745 is probably what I'll go with, thanks everyone!

But back on topic I love my hp (except for the one driver problem I had when upgrading to win7, but I fixed that!), and my friend loves his Lenovo. However, if I had to replace my current laptop(hp), I would go with Lenovo
