Provide no details, vague hints towards something might happen, when stuff happens, claim that's what you meant all along.

Well I imagine originally it was 'the end of the world in 2012'. Then it changed to 'something significant will happen in 2012'.
I put it to you that life in 2012 will be very much like life in 2011.

i think it's something like the mayan calendar ends in 2012 but they misinterpreted it/miscalculated so actually it's not 2012 anyway

Shit got crazy on this thread.
I hate this shit. Fear is a terrible little monster, and I am shaking (literally).
I'm gonna rant:
But to help rationalize things, I looking at it like this:
I think we can all agree that learning from history is a great way to understand our present. History repeats itself, right? How did the current boundaries of Countries and such originate? Haven't volcanoes, earthquakes, disease, etc. always existed? Perhaps the idea of the world ending is a mechanism to cope with the fact that we are experiencing the hardships that the world offers. Society has never been pretty, from what I read. The lines of between government and oppression have always been at a back and forth. The falling of empires, states, and republics is a common theme. Thinking it's unnatural to see nations with up-rise is kind of an illustration of a change in thinking more than a change in the world. Perhaps it is because we are more stable that we see instability as extraunstable. On top of all of this, you can also read about incidents where people were sure the world was going to end in the past. There is one tribal or religious society that predicted the world would end one year, and when it didn't they just said, "It must be next year!" The tradition of them preparing every year continues, apparently (someone should look this shit up b/c I saw it on a new program). This seems to actually be a common trend in society as a whole. This is not the first time we've thought it was the "end" based on predictions and "signs."
If some reserved, metaphysical prophesies are based on civil unrest and occurrence of natural disasters, then the world has been ending for so long. Why didn't it end shortly after WWI; WWII; the Bubonic Plague; the eruption of Toba, in Sumatra; the crusades; the fall of the Roman empire; ________ or_________. Is it possible that because we have a Mayan calendar (one of several calendars belonging to one of several ancient cultures) and a media that thrives on fear in an attempt to control us, that we are expecting the end? It kind of seems like a conspiracy in itself. A way to keep the people ducking down (if that makes sense).
I rather like people and the world. It's a crazy experiment playing out somewhere in the fractal that is everything. We seem to be moving along quite well, honestly. Technology is looking awesome at the moment (even if we did inherit it from aliens). If something does go down in 2012 then so be it, but I think any "end" that is to arise will come from resource allocation and not prophecies concerning civil up-rise and such. I believe that now, as well as in 2012, we should be worrying about energy, food, and improving living standards for the world. That has always been the goal in my eyes, and it should remain the goal until it is achieved. I think 2012 would be an awesome time for everyone to get active. Why not?
Finally, I don't care how enlightened one believes they are, you either know everything or nothing at all. I'm just as clueless as everyone else, and thinking otherwise is an exercise of the ego. How can one claim to know and understand the end of a book without having it or the prior pages word for word? I hope that analogy makes sense; sorry if it doesn't.
Done.

bro... im not a 2012 preacha. The shit Im talking about is fact. Its what happens to all planets in varying ways.Motorway to Roswell wrote:Humans, with their limited capacity for everything, claiming they know something, despite not being able to prove anything, just come across as arrogant.
Even if you've seen something that cements it in your mind, it still means nothing. You're only ever going to see things from your perspective which is barely enough for you, let alone every other human.
The apocalypse could well be drawing near, but to claim you definitely know it is or isn't is just arrogant and stupid.
after way are all dead & the cockroaches rule the earth it will still be thousands of years b4 the planet disintegrates!

Birmingham winning the Carling Cup is a sign of the impending apocalypse.

people must have expected the mayans to write the calender until the end of time. if they stopped writing the calender in 3023 people would claim that is the end of the worldBadman Juice wrote:i think it's something like the mayan calendar ends in 2012 but they misinterpreted it/miscalculated so actually it's not 2012 anyway

the dudes couldn't even predict that conquistadors were gonna come and rape their civilization, they accepted them because they "predicted" their god was coming from across the sea.
oh but the 2012 prediction is totally legit, even though they also predicted that people in our time would still be celebrating the birthday of one of their most famous kings with huge celebrations
Re: Hmm Now Croatia Too...
nah astrologically 2012 is significant in terms of the Earths movement, it completes a number of cycles which they devised as a calendar, 2012 is apparently the end of this calendar, so they didnt just 'stop' per se'.
Re: Hmm Now Croatia Too...
2012 is just when the next baktun (the largest unit of the mayan calendar - about 394 years) comes to an end. there's nothing to suggest that the 14th baktun won't start at that point
