Re: Ambient Drumstep?
Sadly so. :/ I used 'Drumstep' as I thought people would know what I'm talking about that way.Mortal wrote:people got way too uptight about genre names and sub-genres.
But anyway, whatever it's called... some aweeessome tunes coming out now! I no longer regret this thread.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed.

quoted for fucking truth.Mortal wrote:people got way too uptight about genre names and sub-genres.
99% of you would have known what was meant by the OP, and while theres no harm in 'educating', theres no need for anyone to be arrogant arsewipes and come across all pretentious.
but anyways, Data has got some pretty big stuff going on, from half-time/standard dnb, through to dubstep...its all good
half-time
dnb
dubstep
Re: Ambient Drumstep?
classic. used to mix this @ 33bpm as well to get to dubstep in the middle of d&b sets.

i really feel like giving this stuff a try but i don't want to be part of this becoming the next fad and being dumbed down to some signature elements :/ it's inspiring but at the same time i feel like ripping off rockwell and dbridge with all my ideas.

Re: Ambient Drumstep?
i know halftime's been going on for probably as long as dnb exists, but with "drumstep" we have a whole style dedicated to it, then we have the more minimal side of dnb with at least a tendency to have more halftime tunes than normal, same goes for all the autonomic artists. that's a perfect bandwagon to jump on, have a few journalists declare it as the next big thing and you're good to go.Sharmaji wrote:2004:hasezwei wrote: this becoming the next fad
my worst fear: drumstep, being about as formulaic as it gets attracts tons of people, they'll want "deep drumstep" as a counterbalance for all the wobbliness going on and all start copying rockwell just with more trancy shit going on.

Re: Ambient Drumstep?
seems drumstep is becoming the accepted name. even datsik calls it drumstep. now im not saying drumstep is just halftime dnb, i consider drumstep to be the sound of dubstep (chainsaw wobbles lol) at the speed of half time dnb. i realize all the sub genres are getting crazy i dont see why everyone hates it so much. you know what the person means when they say drumstep, so why bother to bitch about it? i mean if you think about it, it sort of makes sense...
this forum is filled with haters lol. which i do understand to a certain degree but you guys need to chill out. you guys are always flipping out every time someone posts a "brostep" style song. if you dont like it then dont listen to it. that leaves more of the deeper stuff to you, so you dont have to follow the crowd. i personally like all forms of dubstep and dont like to ridicule one style.

Re: Ambient Drumstep?
yeah i meant to say dnb. ill edit it. but yes it is true. and its annoying how kids get so hung up on it and will spend thread after thread arguing. i really wish this forum spent more time posting constructive comments rather than negative useless comments. there is a good portion of great people on here that are like this but the majority needs to follow.hasezwei wrote:fix'd and quoted for truth.lyons238 wrote:now im not saying drumstep is just halftime dnb, i consider drumstep to be the sound of dubstep (chainsaw wobbles lol) at the speed of half time dnb*.
Re: Ambient Drumstep?
I hate to sound like a know-it-all but isn't the snare on the 4th beat on that track? 'Drumstep' as it's known has the main hits on 1(kick) and 3(snare).Sharmaji wrote: 2004:

This has been blowing my mind lately. I don't know what it is but the atmosphere/pads make me lose my shit when it drops.Majin wrote:Whatever it's called I think this is what you're looking for:

No problem (I typed out a reply to this the other day but dsf decided to log me out after previewing itdaft tnuc wrote:@ Wrigzilla : very nice tunes, can you recommend more of them ? Like many of them ? A list would be fine, no need for youtube linkage.

Ok here's some podcasts worth checking out:
Fathom Audio (Billion and Sense) http://soundcloud.com/billion/sets/mixes-701/
Giraffe Cast http://soundcloud.com/diffrent/sets/giraffecast/
Autonomic http://club-autonomic.com/
Some cool tracks (not all of them are going to be strictly half time dnb but they'll be of a similar vibe to the stuff I linked earlier):
Blu Mar Ten - "Above Words"
Bop - "Random Thoughts"
SPY - "Silent Sleeper"
"Cause 4 Concern Soul ( N.Phect remix)"
Mizz Beats - "My World"
Alix Perez - "The Resolution"
Amit - "Too Many Freedoms"
Consequence - "11 Circles"
Jubei & dBridge - "Patience"
Skream, dBridge and Instra:mental - "Acacia Avenue"
Skream, dBridge and Instra:mental - "Reflections"
Indigo - "Time"
June Miller - "Poison The Well"
Re: Ambient Drumstep?
Coming from a love of jungle I think of it as half-time dnb (steptoe was the first one that really did it for me) but kind of agree that when someone says "drumstep", you know wtf they're on about (filth at dnb tempo with the snare on the backbeat). I hate that term, but there's not much anyone can do now.
Soon people will think to make the chilled stuff more aggro and make it doubletime

Re: Ambient Drumstep?
i know med school music push this kinda relaxed half time dnb, they have a few tunes up on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/MedSchoolMusic
along with some dnb and whatever else, might be what you were after.

check the old global connections series on asc's old label covert operations
Re: Ambient Drumstep?
yeah funny, i was thinking that people'd be on about deeper, dubbier d&b with a halftime vibe. Clearly the dumbing-down of genres has made its way over this way, as well-- apparently it's only "drumstep" when the snare/clap/whatever is on the 3rd beat. not the fourth.sackley wrote:Coming from a love of jungle I think of it as half-time dnb (steptoe was the first one that really did it for me) but kind of agree that when someone says "drumstep", you know wtf they're on about (filth at dnb tempo with the snare on the backbeat). as a plus, we no longer have to wonder if fans of the genre can count to 4, so that's good.
seriously tho, this vibe has been around for ages, and while it often feels fresh, that's more a testament to the power of the rhythms than anything else. Calling it "atmospheric drumstep" vs. "autonomic" vs. "halftime d&b" is, you know...
retarded.
