Moving on.
Hi there. I've recently decided to move on from FL studio to Ableton Live. For me its pretty much back to basics as i spent a while learning the ins and outs of FL and I soon realised that Live works in a completely different way. I've been using some DubSpot tutorials to try and get the hang of ableton but to no avail. All of their tutorials on basses generally use that POS synth plugin 'Operator'. Now, since i'm used to using massive i really want to use that, however, modulating the wobbles with it has become somewhat difficult since i started using ableton In FL i would make the raw bass and run it through 'Fruity Fast LP' (Low pass filter) and modulate the cutoff through that in order to make my wobbles rather than the performer in massive. Now, however, i've reverted back to using the performer to my own dismay as its only modulates the wobbles for 16 beats. Now my question to DSF is this, is there another way to modulate the rate of the wobbles in ableton using massive?

Shit man operator is awesome! I like it better than massive.
I use it for all my synth sounds.

Re: Moving on.
Ableton has a filter called "AutoFilter"
Make sure you are using the most up to date version of Massive, you can automate the LFO (or any of the parameters). In Live's instrument window, click the configure button, and then touch the setting on Massive you want to automate.

Re: Moving on.
you could also make your raw sound in massive and stick it into sampler, then you get the retrigger on your lfo's

Re: Moving on.
Would that mean me pencilling in the rate modulation?

Re: Moving on.
You can actually get it to do a 32 step. There's an upper and lower section to the performer, so you can essentially have the cross fader set all the way to the top. Automate a square wave that will push it all the way to the bottom. For example, if you're using 8th notes a 16 step performer will give you 2 bars of change, so assign a square wave that oscilates at 2 bars and you'll have it switching from the top of the performer to the bottom and vise versa, essentially getting you 4 bars of automation.REAP3RMusic wrote:Hi there. You can always automate massive in the Ableton automation. Use an LFO instead of a performer and then pencil in those parameters. You can even automate a change of LFO shape (going from a sine to a saw) by automating the crossfader there. All depends on what you're more comfortable with.

Re: Moving on.
Okay so I've made my sound, added the lfo, modulated it through 'Configure'. Do i have to record it to add it to the playlist?

I haven't used Ableton for a while, so I'm not 100 percent sure what you're asking. When you modulate it through configure it'll add it to your list of 'can automate' parameters. Now you can write a melody/write notes in the session view (I think anyways, the linear view whichever one that is). Click the arrow under the track and pencil in some automation. Golden!

Sorry im quite daft when it comes to the Ableton lingo. What playlist are you talking about?REAP3RMusic wrote:Well i've made the melody in session view, i'm having trouble getting it into the playlist.
If you mean you made a clip in the clip view thing you can just copy paste it. If you want to move it from the linear view to the clip view you can also copy paste i think. That's why i quit Ableton, too much clip based stuff for me to get my head around haha.

Re: Moving on.
Ok, so massive has 16 steps, rate and any selection between these parameters. IE if you select 2 steps, it will only play 2 steps, if you want 32 steps, make the performer switch between upper and lower via the stepped LFO etc. You could even set the loop part of Massive's ADSR (env tab) to infity and select two different shapes.
In any case, using internal modulation will always sound different than the effect used in FL.

Re: Moving on.
Im so confused why speant so much time learning FL, which is a wonderfully professional software, only to scratch all that hard work abd put yourself back to square one having to learn a whole new workflow?
FL uses Asio drivers and LAME to play sounds live and render them, the same exact backend software names 99% of other audio systems use... After they fixed the PDC and added multiple cuepoints, it is now even more capable then many of the other DAW on the market as a production, mastering, and performance all in one solution...
I get the impression your switching because you think FL was a problem with your sound, and it wasnt. Your skills are... Rather then starting back at square one, why not keep working forward?
Unless, maybe you like things to be colored white? Because if the workflow isnt clicking with you any better... what else could be the point?

Re: Moving on.
I'm moving on to Ableton for 2 reasons: A) Because i find the pattern based sequencer very awkward in FL. B) I want to do more live stuff.
Hope that cleared it up for ya.

Re: Moving on.
All I can think of is the recording and midi capabilaties of live. If FL improves that there really issnt any reason why I'd use any other program. Also, Ableton is 2 times more expensive and no lifetime upgrades...Basic A wrote:Im so confused why speant so much time learning FL, which is a wonderfully professional software, only to scratch all that hard work abd put yourself back to square one having to learn a whole new workflow?

FL is still my perfect DAW, why should you ''Move on'' ? It's a really good DAW with no limits.
