Bert's Dinner Dub -320

Post by two oh one » Wed Apr 18, 2007 7:42 pm

I know I said that I wouldn't be making any more dubs for a long while, but I just had to do this:

http://www.speedyshare.com/886568159.html

It's all fhex's fault for posting up the King Tubby mix. I listened to that and just had to make something melodic. And happy.

:)

Any feedback would be nice. THIS is the last one. For a while.

Cheers fellas. Looking forward to your feedback. :) I'm looking to get this finished on Thursday/Friday, or perhaps tonight if I can squeeze it in.

Bert gave me the best feedback I'm ever heard - He says it caused him to burn his dinner...

:)

...Whoops...

I define it as "outrageously cheerful". Sounds a little like Mad Professor mixing up Ariwa tracks.

I'm still trying to figure out what to title it...

If anybody has any ideas, that would be great.

Burnt Dinner Dub?

you need to whack on some really inappropriate accapella on this.
19th October - Jahtari Presents Tapes EP Launch Party @ Gramaphone, London w/ Tapes, Clause Four & International Observer.
23rd October - Galway, Ireland.
31st October - UFO @ Dojo, Bristol w/ Dema.

I think you should put on some vocal about roasting chicken, as Bob would say, or maybe just some random brownie recipe read in german...

my 2 cents

lopass filter the pad its a bit too crispy & shimmery - could be nicer deeper & swimmy maybe stick a phaser on too

the main wobbly riff grates me a bit...

drumms could use a bit of fattening, maybe a few plugins to thicken em up. having delay or rverb on a send effect so u can catch the odd note would be nice too.

get someone to play trumpet or sing over it - some live stuff would bring it to life

otherwise its cool :)

my stuff dnb is online at http://www.myspace.com/eonhoney
and my band at http://www.myspace.com/honeyweasel 8)

I'm working on about 7 dubs right now - none finished yet - but soon!

Hey, cheers man. It's about time I got some proper crit! :)

The sound I was going for with that solina string synth is something like the one in Friday Night, Saturday Morning, by the Specials. That high pitched, hollow sound. I love the way it feels. I'll have to think about adding low notes in there, but I like the phaser idea, though. I'm going to make it a little less shrill, definitely.

I've toned down the wobble siren a bit already in my newer mix. I think I was trying to emulate the cheesy over the top noises they used to play over their sound sistims. :)

Yeah - Drums - I agree - I already planned to do a big spring verb on some of the snares in there. That was actually my next task. I'll see if I can fatten things up without losing the character of the Simms and live kit.

Trumpet - Maybe! I've already done a brass track, but need to make this one different. I'm thinking of going Augustus Pablo in the breakdown with some super echoey melodica. :) Vocals, maybe - I can hear them in my head already, so who knows?

If anybody knows a Horace Andy-like wailer, maybe they can give him a call for me?

:)

Cheers for the crit, most appreciated - I'll check out your stuff.

Nah mate, it's totally your fault. I'm so glad you posted that mix up. Makes me beam from ear to ear. I'm going to have to grab your first Tubby Tribute, too.
