Help with a Dj name/title

Post by grillis » Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:34 am

So the time has come for me to create a name for myself and stick to it as I'm supposedly being booked for a few upcoming gigs...

Not really looking for suggestions, more just some feedback on my options. Don't plan on using the 'DJ' title and want to keep it relatively simple. I'll write up a few here and tell me what you think in terms of ability to pronounciate, remember, associations, and anything else that might be relevant. Most have to do with my last name and variations of it so here goes:

Gielis (my last name, I pronounce it 'gear-less' but i've heard countless variations even within the family... and even more misspellings. everyone calls me this)
Gilly (nickname after gielis)
Gillyweed (the stuff that you eat in harry potter to make u breathe and swim under water)
Ol' Gil

and ones that were suggested jokingly but still curious about:

Lo G. I
G. I. Low
Dues Dues

thankya

edit: forgot to mention i need to make this decision within the next few hours because flyers are going up.

Gilly makes me think of gully. Lo G. I sounds like you're on some kind of diet (Glycemic Index)
How would one pronounce 'Dues Dues'?

not liking any of these.. but a dj name doesn't have to be studied tbh.

just smoke a spliff and it just pops into your mind :D:

edit: and check it on google before using it

what's gully? :S

dues should actually be spelt 'dos' (the number 'two' in spanish I think).. pronounced closer to how i spelt it tho.. like juice but starting with 'd'. I'll also make an uno card that says DOS DOS (stacked on each other) in the same formatting. It's something i've gotten into the habit of saying for some reason... when two of any two things happen really.

thanks for the feedback.. unfortunately I can't see that happening as I'd say all of these have been invented and joked about over various smoking sessions

And I know it's not really that big a thing.. I just like a good name is all. Youngsta -> Yunx... rolls off the toungue, easy to remember, spell.. sounds awesome when toast says his name.

Preacha is admirable as well, I don't want to fall into the PistonsBreath/Beneath problem either

I like that progression

Unfortunately promoters advice was 'stick to the name and get it out there'

Gully - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gully
Juice beginning with a d sounds like deuce. So 'Deuce Deuce'? Sounds like poo poo. Ah, I don't know mate but while i'm here, big up for your last mix! I enjoyed it. Good luck with the name, I don't think i'm being much help.

Haha I hopped on urban dictionary first thing after I asked you what it meant.. forgot i had 5 hours to kill between classes before asking for the definition :corntard: Thanks for listening to the mix too, that's helpful enough :)
