Trying to record mixes. Please help!!!!!!!

Post by 123willb » Sat Feb 26, 2011 8:40 pm

Hi guys
Got a sony vaio laptop and got myself a alesis multimix 4 so that I could record mixes from my cdjs.
I am using a Numark dxm06 and running a lead (phono to big jack) from the record output on the mixer to the line in on the alesis mixer, which is connected to my pc via usb.
I am using audicity to record but am having problems.
I am getting sound from the alesis mixer but it is different to the sound when I plug my headphones directly into my numark mixer, It is flatter and sortof more reverby.
As well as that Im finding it hard to get this sound to play and record through audicity and the one time I have, it was awful quality :(
Any suggestions on what to do???
Thanks

Are you running into an audio interface made for recording purposes, or are you just plugged into that little 1/8" mic jack on your PC?

You realize those mic jacks that come on PC's arent designed to handle amplified signals right? if you send anything more powerful then a passive mic into them your GOING to clip and clip hard. Turn your mixer output down so its almost entirely off, and if your lucky, that wont be too loud.

if you're not going into the mic input, read this.

i have a vaio and use an m-audio pre-usb. with 2 different vaios, 2 different houses, i have super weird grounding issues when my laptop is plugged into the power. i get no bass and mono signal when the laptop is plugged in, but great sound if it's running on battery. try unplugging the power to the laptop and see if it helps.

If this the case, try getting one of those little black boxes that attach before grounded devices and old guitar amps and shit... I dont remember what thier called, but they basically make your GFI circuit pickier about what it removes...

i tried something like that before and it didn't work. m-audio had no solution for my problem, but didn't make it seem it they have general issues with vaio, either. i'm getting a new mixer soon, i'm hoping that might fix something. with all the shit i have connected there's got to be a solution somewhere.
