Word, big track.

DMZ like to use basic waveforms and do amazing things with them. Do you think Skreams bass sounds similar to the DMZ one?

Stuck? by who?
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

yeah definitly, sounds like a really "clean" triangle or square..
they sound a bit similar ye but as i said imo dmz's bass is more "present".. u know how things tend to sound "under the surface"/"lofi" by low passing(like skreams bass).. dmz's bass dosent sound like that at all it sounds so clear/clean to me
stuck by coki/dmz :)

Yeh I know what you mean.

The clean sound could come from two osc? one low and the other of course high to give it some space? any ideas about what they are automating? I bet this is done using 1 single subtraktor!

Ah, Stuck - Coki. Yeh the bass is nice in that. Single sine wave with Skream4 dist set to tape and then pushed into a compressor, hard, I think. The sound in the DMZ track Ugly opens the filter to let the sound thru. Its the sound it lets thru that really interests me!

First I'd like to say it is a great pleasure in finding this site. I'm amazed to see that people are helping each other in production because for the longest time I couldn't find any help in this form. Yes this is my first post but after reading through some threads and taking tricks and tips I'm ready to start asking questions.

I've been having trouble trying to make these style sounds...the yugs and yeahs I like to call them. This is the sound I'd like to learn to make.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXGe3BMy7n4

at exactly 00:42 seconds

I'm sure this other one was also created with similar style and may clarify the sound I'm looking for.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=907US4vXrbU

at exactly 01:22

Thank you for you help ! :]
If you can wobble you can make this sound. just throw a bitcrusher on it and you will have the general idea. It may take more tweaking but it will be close. youtube dubstep tutorial or how to make dubstep and you will have atleast 100 vids to help you
I've searched many different tutorials...many. I've been stuck on this sound for like 2 months. What would I do to the wobble ? Where would the bitcrusher go ? I've tried that and it never gets the yuhhh yuhhh sound. It's always a wuhhh wuhhh.
Practice, if all the youtube videos in the world for that ONE sound can't help you then you should give up on that sound, it sounds like shit anyways and it's better if you find your own way there anyway.
haha well I wish I could agree with you now. I wasn't trying to copy him or his style. I thought of that reply so I put in two artist. That one specific was just so easy to put out. I needed the sound for this project I'm working on that I want to keep around for some editing when I become more educated because it's so damn catchy so far and my friends like the idea but I just wanted it to be complete with some things in mind.
I was fortunate enough to come across someone on youtube who explained to me head on.
Turns out I wasn't using the right kind of distortion. I had the right idea going but I didn't have the right type of plugins. Since yesterday morning and reading viciously I've downloaded a total of 24 new VSTs.
I discovered DOA and from there learned quite a bit to.

It's amazing how after the first step in to a community you are introduced to so many things you wouldn't have gotten being alone without even trying.
Thank you dubstepforum, I have gotten the answers I needed to discover what my style is. After many months I now know what I am going for and soon I'll be able to help others that are in my boat.
All because of one sound...YEEEUGGGG

Interested in peoples thoughts on how the bass was made is this track. As far as I know it was made using Reason 3.0. The same bass sound is used thru out (I think?) but at different times something is opened (filter?) to allow more dynamics thru. At 2:41 a long note (can anyone tell me what key that is?) is played where the sound reveals more. After this the sound is open more than previous thru the track. Near the end of the track you can hear the bass solo but do check what happens when the note is played/sustained around 2:41.

I thought it was a square wave with a lp filter on it. It could prob be two oscillators? I also think it has a short reverb on it. But can anyone add any more? any ideas on what is automated and most importantly what settings do you think were used using distortion? I think this plays a bit part in the sound.
why do I always get stuck around the same kind of bass sounds?!

Spent a good 5 hours playing with basic waveforms on different notes with different osc's on the go while trying all the skream 4 settings. No one can ever point me
in the right direction!:( I am always left feeling I won't get the sound right by chance because it requires a few simple specific settings or it won't work. Gutted

I don’t need to it to be exactly the same but I want to know how it is made. I have asked a number of times on here about oldskool sounding bass patches and no one can ever say how they are done. The sound is doing something totally different to anything I can get close to and I really want to know what it is. I made some nice sounds on the way trying to work it out but on a scale of 1 to 10 my sound is around a 1 and the bassline used in Ugly is a 10 out of 10. When he opens the filter and you hear what its doing it just leaves me scratching my head like WTF. Forget all this mid range Massive rubbish that everyone is copying on Youtube with shitloads of stuff going on. Its like the new ‘internet forum geek version of dubstep’ made by kids using cracked copies of Massive. This oldskool sounding stuff with a few simple waveforms pisses all over it hands down.

I have a strong feeling this is easy to do when you know how but some old technique’s just don’t seem to be passed around on forums.

I really like the sound in Gemini's songs such as his Hadouken! remix and his Kelis remix. They are both after the drop.
Kelis- Brave (Gemini Remix)

Hadouken!- Oxygen (Gemini Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/user/UKFDubstep# ... THS-VHC8sA

I also like the sounds in SkisM's remix of Dazed & Confused
RacknRuin - Dazed & Confused (SKisM's Baroque Out Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/user/UKFDubstep# ... WqYcWC17fQ

I like the sounds at 0:42, 0:55 and 0:58

I am using FL studio and have Massive VST plugin. If anyone could tell me how to make them or something like either of these that would be much appreciated :)

wow i am grateful for this thread, this is awesome. well if anyone has the time and wants to help out, i just joined here after hearing Nero (UK)'s INSANE remix of Sincere, i had never been into dubstep before i never knew it could sound so beautiful and sexy . . please go to beatport and listen or hopefully you already have it AS YOU SHOULD, i would love to know what kind of bass Nero (UK) creates for this track . . I use Logic Pro (grateful enough to have Omnisphere) and Reason . .

it would be the bass for the whole track, it is basically 3 notes, a bass note, down one and then up one at times thruout the song very simple however it is VERY powerful and thick and whatever other terms you could throw to mean a solid solid bass. nothing dirty, just clean and hard and strong..

would this be from a sine wave? or perhaps he used a pad and filtered it down to the bass... either way this track deserves a spot in heaven for making me feel this way i am gone, im lifted AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Here's one for you guys. Sorry to bring up Skrillex again, I know you guys get plenty of that around here, but this is NOT about his bass. This is actually about some vocal samples that he totally fucks with in this track. Check out around 0:30. The original vocals that he's using there are really melodic and he totally rubs them in filth. How does he do this? It sounds like some kind of LFO filter that is set to some kind of fucked up shape controlling the pitch but I haven't been able to make anything similar to it happen with Kontakt. Is there some effect processor I don't know about that would do this so severely?

Very odd choice here but does anyone know what sort of thing would make the "lead" sort of sound in this, a mate asked and I'm actually stumped.

I thought a mixture of ring modulation and distortion? Possibly a guitar played through both but it must be possible through a synth?

If anyone could give me a hand I would really appreciate it.Might be quite basic for alot of you but Im quite new to production. The sound Im looking for is the main warm sounding synth thats playing sustained notes thats present from the beginning of the track till around 1:32 minuets before coming back at 2:02 minuets in.

Thanks in advance

Julio Bashmore is so fucking nice! Battle for middle you is constantly on repeat for the moment!
The sound your looking for is some kind of chord sound... try unisono or take some osc and detune them a little bit...
After that it's important to process the sound some more, REVERB!, some filtering, ...
Don't forget to play around with the enveloppe, (attack!)
Just trial and error
