Record Beats in Reaper Using Audacity?

Post by xPEACExMAKERx » Fri Mar 04, 2011 12:24 am

I couldn't find much on how to do this.

How do I record tracks onto Audacity using beats and sounds from Reaper?

Maybe I'm nuts, but why would you want to do that? Why don't you just render/bounce the sounds and load them into Audacity? Why do you want to record from one program to the other???

Ok well as of now I'm pretty much clueless. I'm getting Reaper set up as I'm typing this.

Can you explain what you mean by rendering the sounds and then transferring to Audacity? What you're saying sounds exactly like what I'm wanting to do.

Any help and advice will be helpful.

in reaper, simply export the project as a .wav file and then load it up into audacity for whatever reason you want to use it.

^This

Reaper is completely capable, you shouldn't even need Audacity. Why do you think you need to record from Reaper to Audacity?

Do you not have to use Audacity? I've just read up a little and some people recommended Audacity. Would Audacity be easier for mixing than Reaper? Or vice versa?

Audacity isn't nearly as capable as Reaper. What do you mean when you say "mixing"? What do you want to do? Produce a track? Reaper would be the better choice IMHO.

no problem. and yeah reaper is more than capable of handling pretty much anything you need to do production wise. the only thing i tend to use audacity for is to chop samples, i then load the samples into reason and use them in my song. im not sure what you would want to do to your track in audacity. should pretty much all be reaper that your producing in.

but, good luck with reaper, i heard its a beast. its only 40 bucks too. i find that amazing. just spend some time learning it (youtube tutorials etc) and it will come with lots of practice and time. i plan on buying reaper once i master reason.

mixing down the track you will do it in reaper. the only point for audacity imo is to render the track as an .MP3 file if your DAW can't export it as that format already. i have audacity but not really useful at all since logic can render mp3 format.

I just found out that I need a license for Repear... Thought it was the full program for free. And I can't afford to purchase as of now.

Does anyone know any good freeware for recording?

Exactly. Reaper is great as is why switch? and if its just price 40 bucks isn't too hard to get together. Earn some money.

I think there are a few, I'd check the Production Bible sticky at the top of Production Forum.

You can use a fully capable demo of Reaper for a month. I can imagine almost anyone who wanted to could save 40 dollars in a month. Reaper is damn near free at 40 dollars.

yeah haha if you cant save up 40 bucks within a month id just stay away from this hobby. tends to be a real money pit. i honestly feel like 40 bucks for reaper is too good to be true. i mean shit, you cant even get most vsts for that price haha.

Need more info. What DAW /program are you using? What VST? You have notes laid out on a piano roll or step sequencer and are getting no output?

Could be all kinds of things, sound card settings for example. Are you able to load and play a sample?

I'm using DarkWave DAW by ExperimentalScene. The VST I'm using is Cubix Drum machine and Minimal Drum machine by Pshychic.

Fcuck I didn't think I would have this much trouble getting my setup done. I thought my biggest problem would be learning effects and making decent beats.

that is the biggest problem, you just have to get to that point first

unfortunately, im not familiar with the programs your using. but as stated above, check your audio settings and make sure you have it set to either built in or your interface if you have one. then try writing some notes in the sequencer for the vst your trying to use.
