But you can spoil people by providing too much information. You have to want to do this, and you have to want to learn this. Your particular path through near infinite information is who you are, best to let people determine that by themselves.
But I don't think they're asking for more than entry level questions tbh, in most cases, they are litterally FRESH to it..
It's not just a DSF thing either...I get irritated when people refuse to research anything themselves. I get it all day at work, people don't want to use google - because that takes 5 seconds - and so they just ask for free help. Help is only free on Google. I know that, I work with it. :)

Asking advice for specific problems, cool...but I hear too much of this:

'Hey I don't wanna look this up or think hard at all, can someone tell me how to do this?'

That said, I don't rip faces off...I just get really irritated and close my browser...and make ANGRY MUSIC!!!!

And if they come in here with a reasonable attitude and exhibit some initiative, they'll be fine. If they come in and don't know the very first thing about gain staging but act like the don, all the while attempting to hide the fact that they are asking super simple questions, yeah, they will get heat. I'll give it, I love those guys, it is like sport.

My favorite was Dj Gnome. I swear to you I really almost pissed myself. Homie was talking about how he was going to sell sample packs and patches for massive cause he is a superstar. After some prodding he put a pic up of a patch in massive. It was completely blank, except for a little green 5 modulating the cutoff on the filter. That might have been the funniest thing I've seen on dsf in 4 years.

aahahahahahahah cool story

poor guy, is he still around?

comin from a hip hop background... im familiar with the ''on the grind'' type of people... its something ive learned to admire in a sense... even when it comes with an extremely conceited attitude...

but... people who are self determined, self taught/structured, self criticizing and reasonably self confident all at once ... now thats a much more rare thang...

If you go over to the Threnody Q&A section, he pretty much nails it on the head. You could try to start and produce dubstep, or you could learn basic music theory.

Don't be surprised if I leave tons of feedback on your soundcloud, I hope you do the same for me.

The thread you mentioned really does have all the information you're looking for. It just takes a while to read through it all and find what's right for you but we all had to do it when we started out and to be honest reading those threads is gonna be the least difficult and time consuming part of learning to produce XD

As for which DAW (software to make music with - Digital Audio Workstation) is best for you to start using, well they can all get the same results in the end, it all depends on how you like to work and which program suits your workflow the best. So you should download demos of as many as you can and see which feels most natural to you. We could only give you the recommendation of the program each of us uses but that's no use to you because what suits me might not suit you. No matter what you start off with you won't be able to make anything even remotely listenable for at least 6 months and it will be years before you make anything that is actually good. So be prepared for that before you dive in, don't get angry after 2 weeks and come back here demanding that we tell you the 'magic secret' you're missing that will suddenly make you sound like a professional. Cos it don't exist.

Fuck off you tnuc.

Mine and noways' posts were probably the most helpful and polite things this dude had said to him and then you attack us for it?!?

That's the last time I TAKE TIME OUT OF MY DAY to try and help someone new to production/the forum if all the thanks I'm gonna get is some prick attacking me from behind and alt.

Be a man and say what you think on your main account for fucks sake.

WOW. This forum is full of knobheads.
WOW. That's constructive.

Everything you highlighted was bare truth. If people don't find their own way by researching a ton when they first start, how are they going to know what to ask for specifically?

I only counted one knobhead in here. Clue - it's you.

This shit was funny for a little while but now it's just cluttering the forums. Can we get a mod in here with a ban hammer?!

Man, was there even one remotely consciousness expanding thread this week on dsfp? Even one?

This shit is dead man. I mean dubstep's been dead for a minute, but I was hoping that the production forum would continue to attract and hold intelligent talented people...

The one about reverb as a send vs. insert was a good thread. Would love to see more of those.
I think we get so much more out of a thread that starts with something as simple as "using reverb" rather than chasing a certain bass patch or whatever
It got a little more in depth than just send vs insert, too.
We should talk more.

I missed the reverb thread, I don't know how, prolly cause I sorted this issue, and am tired of seeing the same old shit. Only thing of note (other than confirmation on the technique used on that lp) is macc's advice re mono reverb.

Anyway, yeah, this is a ghost town.
