aye, but the mainstream perception of the 00s doesnt care about your personal opinion, loads of people love festivals and dont give a toss about advertising as long as they get a mashup.

Festivals now aren't as good the ones in the 90s. They're much more a commercial venture with huge sponsorship from the likes of Vodafone, they're just giant corporate shows and environments for adverts and branding now. That happen to have live music.

I doubt you'd find anyone who'd argue that Glastonbury is better now than it was 15 years ago. Half the fun was jumping the fence :D
i can't be sure bout rest of the world but at least around here that has grown quite impossible during the recent years. luckily i've experienced one fence jumping in my life, that was great! :4: too bad for the future generations, i guess they'll just have to put the money down to have fun.

Maybe the 00's will be known as the end of megalabels and all that went with that, and in turn the rise of diversity?

breakstep & dark garage will emerge as the defining influences of the underground
Mariah Carey will be the decade's pop siren
Hot Chip it's archetypal try-hards,
Dixon & Deepchild it's dance gurus despite the contemporaneous popularity of the vans & dipshit Diplo
and electro, Lady Agag & death metal will be it's abiding embarassments.

Well, decades are usually remembered for cultural phenomena that drew a lot of attention that keep a lasting cultural impression, right? I'm not saying that festivals now are at their best, but with so many people attending them and them taking on such a big role in the modern day music industry, it's hard to imagine this decade not being remembered as a festival decade.

And I mean, this thread is about the 'sound of the 00s' and I doubt that it'll be remembered for shoegaze infused black metal and drone as much as major label 'metalcore'.

decades are mainly remembered for the popular movements that grew at the time, which is why most people will probly remeber dubstep as a late 00s early tens thing.
