DMZ 6th Birthday?

bit gutted missed Distance & Tunnidge, walked past the queue well early and it was cool so went Effra but too late by time I came back....started at 8.30 didnt get in till 11! Was hoping to hear new deleted scenes, did anyone catch it?

Never been to a DMZ birthday or night, but it sounds phenomenal. Are the normal nights as busy as the birthday events? I told myself I will go to a DMZ night one night, but living up on Scotland it will cost me a fair amount just to get to the door.

Usually nowhere as busy. The July Summer Blazedowns are probably one of the more popular ones. The room doesn't normally get filled till after midnight, and tends to empty out after 3.

Might have to try and get myself to a July event then, exams are done before then so the summer is mine Gotta save for Outlook though

Book your train tickets well in advance, you can sometimes get some pretty good deals coming down from Scotland.

I think it's important to point out that the Skream & Benga set shouldn't be seen as a negative thing that apparantly ruined the night for some, that's just silly and stupid. I was a bit disappointed with their set like many others but that's probably because we expected something else...having said this they switched up the variety and those houses/techy tunes were great and there were a good selection of tear-out tunes.

Great night in all, but some fucker stole my girlfriends and a friend of hers phones from their handbags while they were still wearing them. Anyone else experience the same thing? Bad vibes for DMZ. The bar staff said they spotted people doing the same thing, but couldn't catch them in time.

Was the sound in room 1 quieter this time round? Maybe I'm going deaf?

For me Teeth in room 2 (who was not even on the lineup) played the best set, amazing tunes.

lol at the brostep skinheads in room 2 at the end, highly embarrassing but good comedy value! I'm amazed that brostep is still played at DMZ, although I suppose it does represent a part of the genre.

Standard DMZ goodness in all though as always.

So having looked at twitter, I can see people getting angry with this forum regarding what's being said about skream and bengas set.

Now, i absolutely love pretty much most of their productions, haven't seen them live for over a year, so i was really looking forward to it. After about 20 minutes of it, i was forced to leave because of the heat and I didn't really wanna stay just to hear some more circus records tunes, of course i was disappointed

I just can't get my head around WHY they played the songs they did, especially at DMZ, and then get all aggy on twitter about how people need to move on from 2005, when people expressed their disappointment. There are SOOOO many songs from 2010-2011 that they could have played without going down the "brostep" route. There is a time and a place for "brostep", common sense would tell me that DMZ isn't the one.

As for the night itself, goth trad and vivek was just ridiculous. Chef dropping Request Line was a highlight because i haven't heard that since the first time i saw Skream back in the day, and to hear it on the dmz soundsystem was just too much.

Progression doesn't necessarily mean technically, just because some of the "brostep" (hate that term) tracks aren't as "deep" as the dubstep that seems to be popular amongst most people on here doesn't mean it's any less respectable.

A lot of people who are heavily into rock or metal absolutely despise pop music and would say that it's simple, weak and boring, but I doubt any of them could write a number 1, same sort of thing goes for dubstep, it's all elitism and jealousy. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Managed to make it to the traditional MacD's stopover, but before they changed to the breakfast menu. Bonus! For the first time ever, I wanted McNuggets. Then was disappointed when they said they only had big macs and cheesburgers.

I had an amazing night! Yes was crowded hot and sweaty, but expected nothing less!

Only down points for me are that it was a sausage fest, and that awful Datsik track that Skream played at the end of his set AND rewound it.. wtf!!

Did Tunnidge and Distance play? I seem to have missed them.

Moaning about things out of your hands, WHY? Yeah, its a shame when water and condensation spoil things, but theres nothing you could've done or can do now...

Shit went sour towards the end. My ears got raped by that emcee in Room 2 when Hatcha and N-Type were on. Didn't let it affect the sheer quality of the night though. Even with the amount of people pushing past me and that whilst I was dancing, I still had a massive time.

If that were true, why did, say, Footcrab, Whut and Sicko Cell get huge reactions? Just think it's a bit of a lazy copout. Reason the tunes went down badly is because people didn't like them.

Because people were expecting a nostalgia set from Skream and Benga, whereas they wouldn't from the other people you mentioned. They were expecting older tunes and were upset when they heard new ones, other people probably either didn't know what to expect or were expecting new stuff from the other DJs.

I dont think its really fair to say that people are upset just because it wasnt an hour of classics.
Music has a place & im sure a lot of people would say that dmz is not the place for that style of music. that is all. If it was at Fabric then Im sure no one would of said a word.
If it was the other way around and some of the deeper artists played main time at a hype night everyone would tear into them.

Im guna have to listen to their set & see what I missed.

On a more positive note, Sgt Pokes really showed why he was the best last night, kept everyone involved even through the technicals.
