Rage Against the Machine - Freedom (Skream Remix)

Post by m3camp » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:50 am

Just heard this recently on Skream's page. He played this at DMZ' 6th year anniversary.
What do you guys think? I think that its carried away, don't care for it at all. Although, it has some complexity worth credit.

BUT, not to put him down, here's what he said:

"Some people are gonna like it, some aren't ....

I still make all styles of Dubstep, this is just another aspect of the sound.....

Massive shouts to everyone who likes it, and to all who dont hopefully you like the next track i upload...

Big Up!"

Just want your opinions!

Can't believe thats Skream - doesnt sound anything like one of his productions

he is the king of versatility

this tracks not my cup of tea but i can certainly see this getting good reactions at his shows

big ups to skream for always trying something else

I'm a fan of Old Skream, in fact it was many of his tracks DSAII that got me into it, and still defned him to this day as a result... but what are you talking about, he has been pushing that sound since 2007. Other than Shinein and Darklight I can't recall a track that doesn't sound exactly like that.

As a RATM fan (since the 4th grade) all I have to say is: NO. I may not like RATM Socialists agenda that Zach has always pushed but I don't see how politically/historical driven music and dubstep can even share the same space ever; especially when he left out the best part of that track: the lyrics in this track especially are powerful, have never been more true:

It's set up like a deck of cards
They're sending us to early graves For all the diamonds...
Freedom, yeah.. right!

You tell me how that fits here? He's free to do whatever he wants, obviously, but I'm told that didn't go down well at the Dutch DMZ. Moshing on the dance floor is lame, don't encourage them. Leave it out, mate.

All this Skream hate needs to stop. He is doing want he wants, not everyone is going to like it and if you don't like it then just ignore it.

Why are you making a thread about a tune that you don't like? Your just trying to start arguments and bringing negative attention to his music.

You show me a Skream tune that has the same noises and production as that

Yes - he makes a lot more "jump up" music nowadays but I have never heard a tune by him that uses noises so similar to the noises of Datsik/Excision etc as in this tune

This sounds nothing like any of the tunes forthcoming on his new Disfigured Dubz E.P for example

As much as I love Skream. Really not feeling this one. Unlike most of his tracks, it sounds like anybody could have made this, and lacks the origiality we have become accustomed to.

Nice Synth-riff, other than that, it's not my thing. But i see this working nicely in one of his big sets. But like he says, the next thing he puts out is going to be a thing for me. Skream is the man, and he will always be.

Everything bar those 2 tracks since 2007 has sounded the same, but when I heard it this came to mind:

He's better than this, we all know that. But success (financial and acclaim) comes at a huge cost, believe me, I know; I've seen it ruin one of my hobbies that, just like dubstep, I saw being made from ground up until it went mainstream, then corporate, which is what is/has been going on.

All I have to do is listen to Warning D1 mix, and I tend to stop caring what he does now.

this tune's absolute shit, but there's a fair amount of bangin tunes from the last 2 years:

phatty drummer
amity step
lightnin vip
cold outside
repercussions of a razorblade
perforated

seckle and dun

David Lynch - I Know (Skream's Not So Ravey Remix) ? 8)

I imagine he still does this kind of stuff, but just less often than he used to. Which in a way makes it all the more special when something turns up. ;-)

Rutten VIP > All mentioned in this thread so far.

I think I now know what sits so oddly with me about this--it isn't Skream's trajectory--its that this is seriously starting to become like what Sony films and RATM did for the Godzilla soundtrack. Zach mocked the the concept of scripted terror, thus belittling them but still getting them to play along because they knew they could market it; this (in my opinion) is no different, which gave way to terrible things like Renegades of Funk and then the break-up of the band and that side project they did without Zach whihc was just PATHETIC and an absolute embarrassment! This smacks of the notion of just putting something they can sell to the masses for a quick buck with a name with gravitas attached to it. (I knew late 2009-2010 confirmed that dubstep had become mainstream, but now I know we are in what is a bubble with many seeking to be the fastest to grab the low hanging fruit.)

RATM - No Shelter lyrics in question:

Godzilla pure muthafuckin' filla
Get your eyes on the real killa

It was a good idea on paper because Soundgarden are a solid band but it didn't really work out in actuality.

This Skream version is not for me.
