I'm guilty of using cracks until recently I caught a nasty virus being stupid. Had to reformat and literally lost everything. From then on I vowed to to only use freeware or pay for my stuff....Then I realized I didn't have a daw >.< I fell in love with ableton so I intend to get it but I'm only making roughly 150$ a check working part time so I'm putting 50 a check back for it hopefully I can buy it soon...at least while I'm saving I can use a reaper demo or something, It'll give me time to get some samples as well I guess. Lesson well learned here.

It honestly pains me to say this, but no...I don't actually buy the software. If I could pay, I would but I am only 15 and don't have the money to pay for anything. I really feel bad about pirating, but I already spent all my money on a laptop so I don't have any left...and my parents don'y buy me stuff like that.

Not trying to be a dick, but I'm going to do a pretty good impression...job? As soon as I was old enough to work, I had one. Every friggin' fast food joint in my neck of the woods is hiring constantly. Builds character.

yeah, I work for my dad, but he doesnt pay me...and apparently where i live i have to be atleast 16 to get a job...i really do want to pay for my stuff, I just can't afford it yet

Yea, there are some places that still have the 16 requirement to get a job. However, most newspapers can employ younger for paper routes. I had one when I was 14. When I was 16 I went through a temp service and got a job as a mover. Basically anyone moving into the area would call the temp service and they would send me and 1 of my friends out to help them load or unload their uhauls or whatever it was they were using to move with.

If you don't have money, and feel bad about not paying, then why not switch to something else? For instance Reaper is about 60 bucks for a personal license, but the demo is fully functional forever, and it's not such a big deal if you just can't afford it right away. There are plenty of people that can afford it but never pay for it, but at 60 dollars it's an amazing price for what you get. Hell you could probably afford the license for it if you just get money for your birthday or something. Once you have that, check around the forums for some of the recommended freeware synths and effects. There are some seriously great free plugs, it's just a matter of sifting through the garbage to find them, and a lot of people here have already done that. This would at least ease your guilty conscience. Of course, chances of anyone doing this is slim, but it's an option none-the-less.

If you feel bad about doing it... that is good. That means you are a human capable of experiencing empathy. Something that has been largely removed from our societies.

I absolutely promise you that you can make mind blowing incredible music with freeware. I'd go so far as to say the freeware will help you get there in ways cracks of supersynths will not.

I say that through long experience with electronic music.

Also, get an issue of Computer Music and get the free stuff off the CD. I finally actually got a copy of the magazine the other month (I wanted to see what Rachmiel's Avante Garde Dubstep article was all about) and there's some great stuff on there...

Zero empathy these days...also this whole sense of entitlement/instant gratification thing going on. I have the pleasure of teaching writing to about 200 18 y/os every semester. I can't tell you the number of them (college students mind you) that expect to get an A just for showing up or showing up most of the time.

I recently had a student approach me and tell me half way through the semester he had signed up for the wrong course and that it was my fault for not realizing and that I need to do something to fix it NOW. I'd never met t he student before this semester mind you.

I'm not saying I'm a super producer by any means, but I've been surprised with what I've been able to do with a copy of FL Studio and freeware VSTs...3xOsc is still a beast IMHO.

I only just purchased Z3TA and I've been at this a while (again, not claiming any skills here).

No.

It's a legitimate excuse saying I'm 16 and I CAN NOT afford software..

For one, I don't have crap to sell, in order to pay for the software, I also don't go out and blow money on random crap, I never have money :/ .. I don't even have a Job.

Would I buy the Software if I had the money? That's a hard one, I would want to, but greed could keep me from doing it.. Take that how you want.

To be honest, I don't feel enormously bad about pirating, if I'm not going to buy the Software in the first place, then downloading it doesn't take anything away from the creators, because they wouldn't be getting my money any ways, so they're in the same position. (That sounds very jackass-ish but.. Whatever)

When I am blessed with Money, and a paying Job.. Then I'd hope to go out and buy the Software, as piracy is still Illegal, and frowned upon .. That's if this turns into anything more than a hobby.

When it comes down to it.. Every one has pirated at least once, and if they haven't, then they may as well hop on the bandwagon, because no one gives two donkey shits any more :l

I understand the great problem in the end, where so much pirating starts, that the creators give up because they're not making any revenue.. But that's not happening any time soon, so stop crying about that shit, and if it does happen.. I'm sure we'll live, and figure it out.. Plus we'll have enough software to hold us above water by then..

The creators are making money, and aren't crying about the pirating as much as we are.. And I doubt they plan on quiting any time soon, so just chill about it.

Sorry for my ranting, half ass'd ranting at that.. Probably doesn't even make half a bit of damn sense.. But, who gives a shit?

Just produce. Stop worrying about who's doing what, and just PRODUCE.

Also, look at how Music used to be... Pirating was a big deal with that shit.

When's the last time you've seen some one locked up for stealing Music? Exactly, it doesn't matter any more, no one gives two shits, because EVERY ONE with a fucking PC and Mums Interwebs, DOES IT!

Do they still make Music? and Albums? And SELL THEM at Wallymart? Yes, because they still make a profit, even with all the piracy.

Same goes for QuiltWare.. It will never end. So stop worrying :/
