what software + hardware do dubstep producers use?

Post by davwuh » Fri Apr 20, 2007 6:44 pm

i personally use Reason for making the beats and ACID for sampling - dont have any hardware yet cause i cant afford it, but what does everyone else use?

also does anyone know what some of the big name producers use? i heard Skream uses fruityloops or something?

Everyone's different, there's no right or wrong equipment for dubstep or any other genre.

My software includes

Logic Pro 7
NI Komplete 4
PSP Mix Pack, PSP84, PSP Leicon 42, Vintage Warmer, Nitro
Tritone, Hydratone, Valvetone, Colourtone Pro, Angeltone
Izotope Ozone3, Spectron, Trash

Skream may use FL but his "production" is not up to much, He does good basslines - I'll give him that.

Check out Milanese for decent production (He uses Logic pro7) www.myspace.com/milanese1

Logic 5.5, Cool edit pro, Bare plugins, Rokit RP8's. That's it! You don't need much to make good beats.

I thought I was the only person rocking PSP! The mixpack is damn useful.

At the moment, Logic Pro 7 on a Mac G4 laptop, with freeware AU's I've found on the net. I really like the sound of the ES2 and EFM synths that come with Logic.

Huge respect to Rusko... Leeds Crew is one of my favorite dubstep tracks.

Reason 2.5
Logic Express 7
Alesis Active Monitors
PCR - 1 Midi Contoller/Sound Card
Powerbook
Technics Turntables
Stanton DJ Mixer
Sony Headphones (for when the family are in bed)

Getting A Subwoofer soon. Im pretty certain this is a good move as in dubstep you want the lower frequencies of the bass to really create shuddering B-lines and my monitors just cant handle them.
ill also be upgrading my sound card, RAM, and getting some plugins & new samples.

logic express 7
audacity
audio hijak
automat
crystal
zoyd
linnplug alpha
idrum
NI electronic instruments 2(not really liking them cause no ones heard of it and can explain how to use them. jokes!)

im curious as to what man are you using not just to sample but to playback samples in time. except for vocals, i have a difficult time incorporating samples in to my dubs. im looking for software with the same capabilities as my mpc2000xl. i might just have to link that into my setup and use it as my main sampler-even this i am not sure of and ive been producing for time.
I AM NOT OK.
