Can u reccomend me some replacements? (switchin from reason)

Post by matb123 » Sat Mar 12, 2011 11:01 pm

Alright guys and gals :D

Right... My birthday is coming up at the end of the next month and I shall be buying new equipment and software (ie, computer, DAW & Vst's) Im currently in the process of switching DAW's from Reason 4.0 to either Logic (If i gather enough money before my birthday, otherwise buying a new PC), FL Studio or Ableton Live. I know alot of people are probably thinking 'STICK WITH REASONNN!!!' but in all honesty im starting to hate it lol I love audio editing and such and not only being a tad lazy but I find re-wiring abit of a kill to my workflow so I just want to stick at 'one' audio based software :)

That was abit off topic lol the real question is can you lot reccomend me some replacements for reasons devices. I will be using NI Massive & Albino so that pretty much covers the bass side of it...

I guess i can create my synth type sounds in these two vst's aswell but any other reccomendations would be great. Main thing im worried about are replacing Reason's samplers as these have samples in such as 'piano's and strings, etc...)

So if anyone could recommend me where to get another vst or just where to find good samples for piano's and strings (basically live instruments) that would be GREAT! :D

Thanks =]

Personally I switched from Reason to FL and haven't looked back, I know exactly what you mean about not feeling the flow of creativity with reason cause it can be so fiddly.

For piano I recommend either TruePianos or Pianoteq.
For real instruments you can buy Kontakt 4 / EWQL / VSL / Symphobia (just do some reasearch on these and see what fits your needs).

id recommend logic if you have any interest in producing music other than dubstep, and even if you dont have any interest in that, logic is a great program. i dont know much about reason but i would say stick with it if you know how to use it well because your comfortable with it and a new daw will just create a new obstacle to overcome.

depending on your budget, i would definitely include Reason in the picture. You already know it to some degree, and rewire is stupidly easy for almost any host DAW. If not , Rob Papen's Predator is a worthy Thor substitute. just my $.02

For a DAW switch I would go with FL. I may be a bit biased since I use it, but It's a great program. Not to mention it's about half the price of Logic, if not more, and you get free upgrades for life. On top of that, as far as ease of use, it's very high up there. In comparison to some other programs I've tried out, it's by far one of the easiest programs to get into. Besides, even if you do switch from Reason, you can always just rewire into the new DAW you choose. So you don't really have to get rid of it or anything. It's really more like an extension to what you already have.

This.

Audio, check. New incredibly shiny devices. Check.
Same workflow, but improved. Check.

No ones, suggested trying out the demos for the other daws?! =) find one you like,
i moved from reasen to cubase, i still rewire and only have reasen for drums nowadays, (unless there audio then its in cubase)

been looking at ableton lately tho as there fx chain seems nice, wouldnt have to keep loading my Eq (fabfilter) on each channel

Kontakt is a good sampler. may be a bit pricey tho... Rewireing means you can still use the NNXT and... what ever the other one is called.

but if your going for mac then logic is the answer.. just my 2 cents
