Albums you should listen to...

Post by phrex » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:39 pm

Nicolas Jaar - space is only noise
Image
http://www.discogs.com/Nicolas-Jaar-Spa ... ter/305947
T/L:
Être
Colomb
Sunflower
Too Many Kids Finding Rain In The Dust
Keep Me There
I Got A Woman
Problems With The Sun
Space Is Only Noise If You Can See
Almost Fell
Balance Her In Between Your Eyes
Specters Of The Future
Trace
Variations
^tre

what an album! not just extremly well set together (to be honest i compare the 'journey' of this album with burials first LP) also every track is a beauty in it self.
tracks like 'sunflower' or 'colomb' give you proper goosebumps - they have that crackle, that fire! amazing.

the most amazing thing i felt about this album is, that you can put it on your decks on a gray, rainy afternoon when everything seems to go wrong - it complements your feelings. but strangely, if you listen to this one on a beautiful sunday morning it will be just as uplifting as your mood. tracks like 'keep me there' are somewhere between melancholy and euphoria.

what an album!
get it!

(if you have an album you want to suggest, please write about it. not just it's name and an added 'it's cool'! invest some time in describing it!)

One of the greatest grindcore releases ever by the original Napalm Death. Profound, prolific and properly brutal. I think everyone should hear it...if you don't like it, then your ignorant.

Shigeto – Full Circle
Ghostly: 2010

Similar school of thought to FlyLo in terms of composition, loose beats etc. But whereas FlyLo takes a more jazz approach to things, Shiegto is more chilled & ambient electronica. There is still a jazz feel to it, and the drumming on tracks like Look At All The Smiling Faces is fucking next level.

If FlyLo is music for sitting around smoking to, then Full Circle is an album for lying on your back in the sun looking at cloud patterns.

William Basinski - Melancholia
Image

On a different tip than what you guys have posted, but one of my favourite albums. Made entirely of piano driven tape-loops, each track a different loop. It's an album to be listened through extremely loud or with headphones, at night. You can tell what to expect from the album title, but it is so much more than that, it captures an atmosphere perfectly, the mood changing through sinister, to melancholy, to hopeful. Each track is swathed in differing amounts of crackle and pops, a result of the age of the tapes, which adds another level to the music. You may just think 'oh, another ambient album, who cares' but I really can't describe how beautiful it is.

tl;dr
More repetitive than techno but deeper than burial.

You can listen to it here, crank up the volume: http://boomkat.com/downloads/87489-will ... elancholia

EDIT: for the sample crew, track 6 is used in William by Mount Kimbie.

Clark- Body Riddle

2006 album on Warp, electronic with some beautiful synthwork, but its the samples which do it and in particular the percussion, all stuttering and so live sounding which does it for me
:U:

Albums got it all, theres the melancholy, the happy bits, the cheesy bits, the mad bits, it really takes you on a journey
