The writing in that article is stupid but I would think people on this forum would be stoked that at the end of it they point people in the direction of Burial, Flying Lotus, and Skream rather than the so-called "Brostep" type of stuff.
edit: woops, someone beat me to it.

Seeing dubstep as an 'artform' above any other genre, in a different league to any other genre is a subjective load of bollocks.
Go dip your head in the gangster rap scene and if you get involved enough you'll think the same about that type of music.
Talking about a genre like that is just affection for the way the music connects with you, dubstep isnt unique in having a soul, all music has a soul that you only discover when you connect with it.
Sadly, it has a life cycle, all that will remain are those who cling on to their affectionate memory, like the way my old man still swears ska is the best thing since female genitals. It is only a product - its your own preference that gives it soul, it doesnt develop autonomously.
I admit, its poetic to think of it as a living thing, but it isn't - the 'soul' of dubstep is an extention of yourself and your own preference. Only humans have soul, dubstep and music is incidental to us as people, an object of our creativity, so give yourselfs a pat on the back and take credit, because is an intangible creation spawned from the human mind!

i do think the same abt that 'scene'. it used to be amazing and still is if you look hard enough but the 'scene' is so diluted/polluted its hard to wade through all the shit...

not the ideal artistic mode, but a good one.
basket weaving is an artistic mode that objectively should be seen as equal to every other one. I agree that objectively we can make no distinction and so everything falls to the subjective. but it is almost an objective fact that music is a better mode than basket weaving.. we're obligated to say that they're essentially equal but know they are not.
But I totally agree with everything you said.

Yes we all should of kept shut about dubstep, but how can you? its so freakin awesome, but i think within time the sounds are going to sound less dubby and more electro in it.
i cant wait to learn how to make my own, its gonna take forever though....

to take a phrase from mos def: "next time you ask yourself where hip hop [dubstep] is going, ask your self, where am i going?"
take a note, it doesnt fucking matter.
this music isn't ruined and it sure ain't dead, music is about continuity and change, get used to it!

i'm new here. can someone tell me if i'm ruining it too?
here's a little about me: I live in Los Angeles. i don't own heavy frame glasses. i don't own any converse. I am clean shaven. i do own a few plaid shirts. i own one hoody that I wear out on occassion. my jeans aren't tight at all and allow my jans to breathe. i don't shop at american apparrel or urban outfitters. i can't shuffle. i don't have a 'crew'. i dj bass music with ableton using mp3s. i don't smoke weed regularly but will on special occassions. i go to the gym. I prefer to drink GOOD beer (i'd rather drink your mom's tit sweat than a PBR). i drive a car instead of a fixed gear bike, especially after midnight. bass music takes up about 75% of my free time in life.
from that description would you say i'm ruining the dubstep?

The only way to ruin dubstep is to not believe in what you are doing.

Did i post this up? holy shit we are twins or something. the only thing you didnt post right about me is that i do own converse haha wtf that's a trip. i like how you put "i drive a car instead of a fixed gear bike" because i fucking hate the fixie trend.
