A Social Grace by Psychotic Waltz.
Image

These guys started out alongside many of the big names in prog metal, but never took off in the US for various reasons. Their sound is heavily influenced by "classic" metal (Dio, Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc), but is far from a rehash of any of that, or even just a progressive-ized version of it. Their next album, Into The Everflow, is a bit less aggressive than A Social Grace, so if you find this a bit much, give that a shot.

A true winter album, it'll beat the shit out of you and throw you out into the cold, then it'll invite you back and nurse you back to health like a creepy grandparent from a horror film before finally ripping you apart in a very graphic and ritualistic manner.
Probably my favourite album.

EDIT: If you already know this album (which you should :P) check out this interview, well worth a read http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1173

Gonjasufi-A Sufi and a Killer.

Love this album. His vocals are incredible. Great pace to the album. Great start, middle and end.

I actually love this album. the guitar work is amazing, and lyrically it's pretty good too... vocals take some getting used to- but they fit the music perfectly. drum work is incredible also.

Ugly Duckling's first official EP. 8 tracks, 30mins, fucking bliss.

Best cuts off it (IMO);

Einstein's Taking Off;

Do You Know What I'm Sayin';

I was 17 when this came out. Had it recorded onto an old C30 cassette tape so that I could listen to it in the car on the way to and from my job working in Safeways 8)

13 & God. Cant post pic or vid cos on phone. I like that album a lot the production sounds beautiful and the potry/rap is next level, esque C clamp anyone? Men of station and soft atlas are my favorites off the self titled and they have a album from this year that soundsnice from the few spins its been given.

Hip Hop

Real Live The Turnaround, one of those albums, like the cold vein, that it's incredible finding but then disappointing when you learn it's just the one album. This is very fucking good indeed.

Bunny Wailer

A true great and one often undervalued because of the successes of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh but this is a great album

Probably my favorite Kraftwerk album, 30 years old and some parts still manage to sound futuristic today (well- the tunes without lyrics at least, 'pocket calculator' sounds like its straight from 1981!)). Really works as an album too- tracks progressing and blending into each other in a way that you really need to listen to the whole thing from start to finish.

I never quite get how the big Detroit techno originators get so much credit for techno when this album was released long before and is so techno- not just in sound but in the ideas of future, society and technology and how it will change us that they all went on to use.

Anyone into any sort of electronic music owes a lot to Kraftwerk and this album (also 'the man machine' album), so it is something you all should have a listen to!

^^^ my fave Kraftwerk album. Computer Love still sounds good even after Coldplay jacked the melody for one of their tracks.

Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport

(The music is better than the name, I promise)

Simply the most euphoric electronic music ever made without ever being cheesy - which is quite a feat.
