Pick Up and Go.

Post by AntlionUK » Sun Mar 27, 2011 10:04 pm

How easy is it to just pick up and go? Recently been thinking about just moving somewhere, i'm fed up of england and all its bullshit. Wanna go somewhere else and experience something new but in all fairness I've got no idea where i would even begin to get the ball rolling, i don't even know where my passport is :corntard:

I've just got a job in Australia so I'm leaving this week, moving to Brisbane.
I'll let you know how I get on!

how swift is pick up and go?

i got tired of the daily grind, so decided to leave uk - currently teaching in korea - in many ways, its hardly earth shattering and im still in a 9-5 grind of sorts, except the jobs low responsbility and money is good to an extent - but its nice to just be out of the uk, change of scenery, take stock on what i was doing and where i want to go etc...

took 3 months from having the idea to flying due to visa, job application process etc. felt like a very long 3 months, mind

Come to San Diego!

It wasn't easy moving here, but it was definitely a life-changing decision. I worked for a corporate company that has stores everywhere, and SD had an opening in the same department (very hard to come by), I chose to be here. Sold one of my cars, packed my life in the other car and left. Been here since 2002. Planning to buy a house in the next two years.

**edit: Although, I'm planning to get my masters in Florence Nightingale's midwifery school in London, but, still unsure. Wish nursing was the way it was back in the 70's/80's where you can go to any country easily**

what i plan to do. yeah the grass is greener, but im sure alot of us would be thankful for just being around more grass in the first place. england /uk obviously has it's good points as well as bad but in terms of the vibes your looking for, there's a lot more of a relaxed/freindly atmosphere to be found else where. you dont know what you've been just accepting as 'normal' behaviour till you see what other places have to offer on all levels.
just about being able to save enough £s and see it through if you really feel you'll benefit from different surroundings.

Piece of piss in Europe, the only hard thing is making the first step.

I came home though quite quickly, it's lonely out there. Far more than London is to a newcomer.

My advice is never get into something that you can't jump straight out of. Always have enough cash in an account somewhere for a ticket home and a bit more for emergencies. That way there is no reason you can't just jump in feet first. I did, and it's why I have done and seen far more than most people my age. So much sore I omit stuff from my CV and people who don't know me, generally think I must be talking shit because their life has been: leave school -> Go to uni -> Dos about for a bit before getting a job.

Don't settle down and put your feet up until you're at least 35.

Probably be laughed at for this but there's something about becoming a Buddhist monk for a few years that appeals to me. Well I think it would appeal to me - based on my limited knowledge of Buddhism.

P.S

I did a large chunk of North America and Canada. America's alright but pretty shit truth be told, Canada isn't that much better but I think you're better off going somewhere that is quite culturally different to your own country.

Avoid Washington, D.C. at all costs. It's like a giant theme park, they even try to age some of the statues and shit there with algae and moss because the country is so young

I've got far too many outgoings to just leave all of a sudden.

Need to clamp down on those first like my two gym memberships for gyms I don't even go to.
