Re: you know what sucks
I really need to hop on this whole
highproduction bandwagon
Have been meaning to for a while, I'm sure it could channel some new shit into my tracks.

Re: you know what sucks
a good trick I use is when the track really seems like there is something cool about it, i'll do a save as before I dive in and start tweaking on shit. that way if it loses the magic, I can go back to the previous session

Re: you know what sucks
You make great tunes - so this pleases me it would suck seeing you turn into a generic stoner who over does it and starts making weak tunesLordBid wrote:pshhh I just stopped smoking cus im too broke to keep it up, sure ill grab a toke now and then but I think im done with the ganj for now. I am way better at everything I do when im not blazed. Try not being such a stoner and relying on weed to get shit done. Not that im against it but it has so much potential for abuse... and it doesn't really do you any favors that you couldn't already be doing with some motivation.

Re: you know what sucks
actually im not that much of a stoner. i stopped for probation and never got back into it. i dont even like blazing a lot. but i just find it sometimes helpful when trying to come up with ideas. idk it sort of opens up my mind to things that i would not normally do while not high.LordBid wrote:pshhh I just stopped smoking cus im too broke to keep it up, sure ill grab a toke now and then but I think im done with the ganj for now. not like i get high everytime i work on a song. but when im blank it really helps. and also sometimes when sober i just get fed up and end up doing something else.
when im high my full attention is in my daw. i might get side tracked within my daw, but at least its within my daw and not tv or the internet.

Install Synplant, you`ll get even less done.
I used to sit and watch the fronds waving in beat.

Re: you know what sucks
You just gotta do exactley what you said, try not twiddling knobs when your producing high... It may seem difficult, but if your really in the zone, the rewards (ie. progress) would be worth it. I'm sure someone already said this but don't overlook "twiddlin knobs", just remember there's a time for it, and a time for other things.

Weed can (not will, CAN) make you more creative. But no weed makes you infinitely more productive.

Blazing when producing definately helps me get in the zone, always helps me come up with ideas. Only trouble is i usually only have about 30 minutes before i just wonna lie down and watch TV.....

Re: you know what sucks
Yeah, I've never smoked to produce, but when playing guitar or trumpet, the improv comes easier, when I'm djing, the mixes are less predictable and mixed in ways that are infinitely more interesting. I'm just curious to see how it affects me in this aspect. I could see how it's slightly less insta-rewarding than the previously mentioned activities, and my interest might sway soon after starting. heheh.

Re: you know what sucks
yeah weed usually makes me more creative and in the zone.
and when i blaze im stuck to my daw for hours and it feels like way less. but yes i am a bit less productive because i end up twiddling and get side tracked doing things within my daw.
also i noticed i cannot produce 1 song at a time. i end up getting like the main idea to a song and i try to continue but get diff ideas along the way and have to start a new song.
i never finish songs because of that reason too. but i guess its not a bad thing. i am still very new to producing and eventually i will work on trying to complete the unfinished songs. also i get better and better every time so sometimes i just start a whole new song instead of working on an old song that i could make 10x better than when i originated it.

even in the Q & A thread for the widdler he said he produces this way too. he said he has a ton of unfinished songs and has to be working on a few diff ones at a time. and he said he makes and has a lot of drum lines ready to be jammed on. pretty good idea. because if you have a bunch of diff drum lines saved and get inspiration for a synth or a song in general, you can start jamming on whatever beat goes best with it.

Never made a tune when stoned, but I had a go once when pilled up and it sounded like 1000 police cars chasing 1000 ambulances through a warzone, on fire, upside down, in Greece, in the morning. Backwards.
