I take back everything I wrote.
I had dubstep all wrong.
the people who are dubstep don't give a fuck about what the people who aren't dubstep are doing or saying about (to) dubstep... because they have nothing to do with dubstep.
I want to be dubstep like so many of you are.
and I don't care about what the people who aren't are doing.
they don't matter.

Don't see what the big deal is. Dubstep getting popular doesn't mean it's being ruined. Sure, a lot of the "popular" dubstep is shit to some people, but at the same time we've still got certain labels putting stuff out there that, despite not being so popular, still shakes the fucking floor at clubs. Stick with labels like Tempa, DMZ, Hyperdub, Tectonic, Hessle, Kapsize etc. and you cannot go wrong, simple.

People who say genres are ruined by becoming mainstream usually only like it because its cool to like, the stuff u like is still being made so what's the probs with different commercial stuff being made?

If you want to be like the majority of this forum you have to follow these steps:
Go on Discogs
Buy everything from DMZ, Deep Medi, Burial and Zomby.
Congrats, you are now "dubstep"

I'm not not an elitist, but I think I am misrepresenting myself. There is some corruption in the tunes being produced that is bothersome, but that's not my main issue. Because, like several people have pointed out, the volumes of cookie cutter drivel coming out have had little to do with the production of the real creative tunes.

My complaint was that the scene is tainted. But I never knew the scene to be anything but filled with joiners. There is no real scene here and if there were I haven't been into dub long enough to have known it when it was pure. I just wish that the dark, terrifying stuff would get more circulation here and thin out some of these plebians out.

I have my pretensions but I don't think anyone would agree that the mean taste is what's preferable.

Besides, I'm over it. I only feel like something's lost.

Nothing has been lost.

Because the only thing this "mainstream dubstep" -thing has got to do with the original dubstep - is the tempo. And i agree with experimenting with new sounds - my biggest inspirations are: Joker, Old Apparatus(Even though i only know two tracks of his(her, theirs)) and 2000F. But every track from this guys have different sounds, flows and themes - My problem with Doctor P and the newer flux pavillion - is that they only bring new sounds(sound which will give you a nice headache after 5 minutes) - They are missing flow and experimental themes. Their theme and sound can be described in one word: "YOY!"
And oh yeah, i hate the music which Skrillex makes. Respect to the guy for making it big.

I think people should stop using the damn word "Elitist" right now - please. Dubstep is bass music at 140 BPM - that's whats wrong with the mid-range stuff. And i don't know how you got into dubstep (never use the term dub on this forum - The guys with 1000+ posts will eat you alive), but i believe that the underground has grown because of mid-range artists, so maybe we have to be grateful? I don't know. But one thing i know: The vibes of dubstep is what keeps me in the genre - going to a big rave with mosh-pits and so on and so forth, kills it for me. Eyes closed, hands to yourself and make good vibes - that's what dubstep is about.

I'm inclined to take up Mala's point of view on dubstep - does there really need to be a label for this music? If you like the music, you like the music. Fuck everyone else.

We all either agree or disagree that Dubstep hitting the mainstream is bad. It's not horrible, nor the worst thing to happen but it's not great. I personally would hate it because I hate doing what's IN, for example; all these kids around my area are riding fixie (fixed gear bikes with fruity ass colors) bikes because it's IN. I'd hate people to think I'm doing something because it's what's everybody else is doing, and because i have no sense to explore more than what is being exploited in the mainstream.

I'd compare it to your GF having sex with your best friend in the past and you barely found out (and he was bigger[lol]). It's not a deal breaker, but it just kind of blows??? :u:

PS that didn't happen to me lol :z:

No-one Ruins Dubstep, if you feel that because of another sound being popular or because someone is telling you what you like is shit and "noise" then maybe you didnt like Dubstep enough in the first place.
