Remixes allowed?

Post by Hedorah » Fri Apr 01, 2011 3:47 am

This may be in the wrong section, but what the hell.

I'm hopefully gonna be releasing my first EP soon on beatport or similar.
I've done a few remixes which I'd like to put on it, all with vocals or other elements of the original song in them. The EP won't be free, so kinda unsure what the rules are about releasing stuff like that. Is that technically breach of copyright? If so, how do I go about getting permission to use them?

Any answer would be appreciated.

If its a remix, you need to clear it with the original artist if you want to release it legitmatly. Hence why lots of remixes (really bootlegs) are "unknown artist" on white label vinyl

Yeah you cant charge anything for a remix/bootleg if you dont have the permission from the original artists. Then if you have had permission you will obviously have to give them a cut of any monies. Unless you have been asked to do a remix by somebody, just release them for free.

Edited for missing a important T out.

Thanks for clearing that up guys. What I'm probably gonna do for now is release an EP of my originals for a small sum, but release a remix EP separately for free. Thats sound good?
