Yes. I can't DJ myself, but my friend wanted to be a DJ. He changed his mind though
It's mildly aggravating when DJs blow up just because of the people they know, that really aren't great DJs (sometimes suck dick) and don't produce shit. It's a different art though, and some people deserve respect for it
i got a friend who can beatmatch, tighter than me, but when he brings in any tune, ANY TUNE, he will bring it in on the four? Good at beatmatching, shit DJ.
Just out of curiosity, in this thread I know a couple of people have mentioned that you need to build a set (i.e. taking it from the deep up to, well, I dont play dubstep but I suppose, say the faster BPM side of your selection) has anyone ever witnessed or actually experimented with doing it the other way round. Know it probably wouldnt work aswell, but I just wanted to know maybe in some instances where the DJ works downward instead of upward and it has worked.
Could think of some instances where maybe a DJ has played from say 3am-5/6am and has had to build down, but I've never experienced anything myself (could imagine it working well in Berghain or Panorama
Yea,
I know some dj's pretty well and just because they get some shows like all the time, nothing HUGE but still constitent shows, they honestly think they're the SHIT. It's too hard to hang out with them because they're just too cocky and honestly think they're better than everyone.
I'm sure some of you have encountered some people like this.
and god forbid the kids who have the APC40 and get shows because they fuck with they're filters and beat repeats and all of the other ableton goodies, if you know what I mean.

not saying ALL dj's are like that, but seriously the ones I know out here in CA, have the biggest fucking ego's and they're honestly nothing special at all.
NType is a respectable DJ plus hes been around the dubstep scene for so long..part of the early movement etc. his dubstep allstars mix was one of the first dubstep mixes I ever listened to and it was the fucking shit! S hu iverz is also another dj I really like n he isnt a, big name producer
after djing for awhile I kinda got tired of just playing everyone elses tunes n got the drive to make my own
Sometimes i'm glad i dont mix out every weekend. people get sick of seeing the same guy mix out all the time, more often than not playing the same dam set. These days i probably do a gig every 2 to 3 months, which suits me fine as its usually a large international support role. this also gives me plenty of time to concentrate on on producing, and when a set comes along i'll have heaps of fresh tunes to play. what annoys me is hanging out to see a big international play - someone who produce's awesome tunes, and watching them crossfade all night!

oh well :p
Sounds like Rochester (prolly every city) .
it's always a matter of who you know not having djing skills or chops
This has got to be one of the most stupid things i have ever seen on this forum!
Andy C has been mixing twenty years and is still improving!!!
Check out EZ if you think DJing is just beatmatching! Might not like the tunes he plays but thats not the point i am trying to get across!!!
Also one poster said something along the lines of
"who wants to see mad mixing and three deck trickery"
Done properly this mad mixing/trickery creates energy in a dance! The crowd are excited cos they havent got a cllue what coming next compared to your average dj mr smith who take three minutes to blend in the next tune!
Another dude was trying to go on like the ability to read a crowd was not important!!
How can people come up with such rubbish!
There is a reason why on this forum Youngsta gets bigged up so much!! He can do things very few others can do!
Sayin being a producer is much more difficult than being a dj is like saying being a footballer is easier than playing in the NHL

Selection selection selection.
A comment about the ego thing, you must have a bit to think your musical tastes are worth sharing with an audience, take that how you want

Dj'ing is the same as production... Any tom dick or harry can make a substandard tune after learning a DAW, same way the same person can do a substandard mix after a weekend taking in beatmatching?
And these "wannabe rockstars" are doing the same thing as a lot of people on here do, they mix because they enjoy it... Same way we produce because we enjoy it.
Narrow minded fool.
Abstrakt.
Come check out my fothermucking soundcoud:
Something TOTALLY different. Really enjoyed this badboy and the melodies.
