Like if you told someone you were a huge dubstep fan, so they went looking and found Borgore, Datsik etc and if there was no differentiation between brosetp and dubstep, they'd assume that was dubstep and that, lets be honest, your a bit of a twat.
Theres a huge difference between electro and electro-house but without the genre differentiation a fan of Justice might look for something else in that vein and say they like electro, so someone could give them a few Deadmau5 tracks to listen to.
i dont really get what your saying on that last bit, but justice nor deadmau5 are electro, or is that what you mean, they say they like electro and then dont get what they are looking for?
I was using Justice and Deadmua5 as examples.
Justice are electro, and Deadmau5 would be considered electro-house (i guess, i dont listen to much of his stuff), but if there were no sub genres both would be called electro even though theres a huge difference in sound between them.
So a fan of Justice may look for something similiar in that vein so may ask for some electro, and because there was no sub genre they may get recommeded Deadmau5, and that is not what they are looking for at all.
Wheras with the sub genres we know whats electro, whats electro house ect.
You dont recommend Cannibal Corpse to a U2 fan just coz there both rock, genres are needed.

I dont really listen to either, but i was just using the two as examples of genres, wether which one is electro or electro house is irrelevant.
yeah neither of them are electro, im sure you could just say oh im looking for music similar to justice, then you get exactly what you want, but still you may not, as peoples opinions differ, you could say to someone give me summat similar to justice and they may give you deadmau5, even within sub sub sub genres you still will get artists that you like and dislike, and even if you ask someone for a style of music you want, and its not what you want, just dont listen.
i thought this was electro, thats a term thats been used for everything from Afrikka Bambaataa, Underground Resistance to Justice and Dj B3L3ND etc. Thats a fucking wide range of shit...

I never said there is not a difference between Justice and Deadmau5, I said they both make electro house. I am not using Wikipedia for music knowledge, I am using my actual music knowledge, Wikipedia just happens to explain the genres quite clearly with examples. Seriously, you don't exactly have to dig deep to see the difference. Maybe try reading the links rather than dismissing them outright as a 'fail'...

Afrikaa Bambaata is one of the pioneers of hip hop really...
And yeah sub genres are annoying but yeah they are neccessary.
ALthough i still dont know what FUCKING BROSTEP IS what is this shiiiit?

GAH. Know how you feel. I was explaining how dubstep has dub music in it, and this guy beside me said, "What the hell, no...dubstep isn't reggae"
*sigh.
I found a way to get piece of mind for years and left the hell alone, turn a deaf ear to the cellular phone

dubstep isnt reggae though? its the most filthy, rotten, heaviest shit i have ever heard! i file it next industrialmetalscreamcore
In my opinion, genre-bending should be more accepted. Experimentation is where you've gotten there in the first place. People get so offended for others making up crazy subgenres to define their music, yet when the artist has its own sound it sometimes comes in handy for someone whose never heard of them. Right now I've been experimenting with a blend of pop and electronic music, with heavy dubstep and chiptune influence. What exactly do I label it as, yanno?
The part of all this that I agree with is that music that isn't what it says it is should not be labeled as such. I always hated when people would label generic ass metalcore as grindcore or (especially) hardcore.
damn i hate this too. of course i see the benefits in categorising music to organise files etc, but have always disliked people saying song A is this, song B is that. seems especially prevalent in electronic music. does anyone really give a fuck which song is electro-house and which song is postbassjunglecoreravedubfuturestep?
music is music! the sound you like is the sound you like. dont get too hung up on it

Another 'Wikipedia is sooo gay lol' dickrider. It may not be very descriptive, but it can help with learning new things. I guess people feel knowledgeable when they insult encyclopedias ?

LOL at the people who don`t know what real electro is. Don't like sub-genres? Then don't use genres at all... it seems the only people I know that have all this hatred for sub-genres are the ones who have a hard time differentiating between the two. It's like the quote "there's no sense arguing with an idiot... first they bring you down to their level then they beat you with experience".
