We could swap opinions on what the greatest gin is. I've had loads of discussions about that, but we've rarely came to any conclusions...djdeadb3ats wrote:What should we talk about then in the production forum them ? Not hatin just saying
Personally I find it really useful when people post up random production techniques they use. Sometimes it can help get the creativity flowing. Proper mixing and EQing has been covered to death, but usually from reading different peoples takes on it I get different things out of it. I think having tons of "how do I make this sound" isn't a bad thing, but having tons of identical "how do i make this sound" is kinda frustrating. I'll admit, occasionally there are useful tips masquerading in some of those posts. Rarely, but occasionally.

Re: wtf is up with...
it's on topic, but no need for 1 million threads on the same subject especially when it's been covered from all angles before, or there are threads answering the same topics right on the front page people are to lazy to look at and just click new topicdjdeadb3ats wrote:What should we talk about then in the production forum them ? i mean how many times should what headphones should i buy being asked be enough, it's not like there have been a sudden recent influx of new models to be adding to the discussion and so on with a lot of the topics covered in the stickies (which seem to go neglected or just plain ignored due to people not wanting to do a bit of digging into longer threads)
i completely understand people wanting to break down a popular sound coined by a currently hot producer, but there is no need for repeatedly asking the same question over and over just due to people being too lazy to read through the stickies, first few pages of discussion topics or use the search function. that and all these what exact plugins yada yada threads are pointless unless the artists answer themselves have said it in an interview or post here, otherwise it's just hearsay (which is what a good chunk of the people giving poor advice when it comes to those threads seem to do) and just spread bad info and further confuse someone who is more than likely new to production (render resample render resample without giving any rhyme or reason or explaining the fx and processing chain and why it's resampling other than it being a term that gets tossed about for example)
sometimes reading some of the responses in some of these threads is just like the blind leading the blind when all it would take if people really had the interest would be learning synthesis and effect processing and what they do which takes some elbow grease and patience, which unfortunately seems to be lacking in this new crop of producers...
Re: wtf is up with...
End of the day - if people searched before starting new threads, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Re: wtf is up with...
half the reason is people feel they are entitled to be able to make the same sounds as their favourite producers.
Because they can vote their favourite celebrity off of celebrity love island or whatever, have an opinion on any news story, basically get spoon fed what they should be listening to, they expect to be able to gain access to this info at the drop of a hat.
It's the 'access everything/over opinionated' culture we live in (think I'm going on a bit of a tangent rant here but w/e)
as somebody mentioned upthread, there wasn't youtube tutorials back day, I suppose people just had to experiment, or pester their closest musical guide.
just my 2p, also, you can just ignore the threads to be honest, the more you post in them the worse they will become, and it's always the same guys replying to them I notice, u man are getting TROLLED.

Re: wtf is up with...
Like DH and others i hardly post here anymore, its groundhog day. Just got nothing to add to anything anymore.
I do lurk still tho.
On gearslutz when you try to post a new thread, you get a list of similar thread titles saying read these first. Bloody amazing.
Dubstep went the way of dnb sooo quickly its sad.
Back to ye olde acid house for grumpy old man.

GS is UBB based as well - any way something similar could be incorporated on here?

I'm 21 and acid house is like the best thing ever, except juke.paradigm x wrote: Back to ye olde acid house for grumpy old man.
Re: wtf is up with...
Totally agree- I also get pissed off at 'is this or isn't this song an example of genre x or y?' get so much of it esepcially when genres become over-saturated (which let's be honest, dubstep is in danger off). the only plus point of these futile discussions is that everyone eventually realises how fucking stupid they are, and the genre sizaN gradually die outElectric_Head wrote:This crap is not able to be explained away.
If the questions were even remotely different, I`d help.
But they all ask for the same thing without even bothering to do a slight amount of research.
That`s what it comes down to.
It`s just too much damn effort to spend more than five minutes on a sound.
It all comes down to a total lack of originality.
A or B rather chooses to make identical wobbles because, hell that guy is making some dollar.
I`ma gonna jump on that bandwagon quick.
Why not jump on the bandwagon that is Dubstep?
Make your own sound and be happy with it.
pffft
stab, kick, wait 3 beats, snare, wait a further beat, tom, in comes sweeping sound, delay, boom, boom.
Did I get the Dubstep formula exactly right? Thanks goodness now I am formulaic. MONEY MONEY
i'd rather make dubstep that isn't recognised as such by anyone else than copy another producer down to the finest detail just to make sure there's no danger that someone can suggest that what i'm making 'isn't dubstep'
How much does Doctor P really have in common with Digital Mystikz? Genres evolve, let's worry about the music and not what fucking category we place it in. As for the copycats, I know it's annoying, but I think people over-react slightly. After all, by the time these guys get the techniques they want down (that's if they ever do) the bandwagon will have long gone...it's annoying to think that while you're trying to sculpt your own sound and learn for yourself, some wanker is getting recognition for ripping off someone else. But does this actually really happen?
Btw, I get the feeling I may be derailing topics somewhat. Please tell me to STFU if that's the case

Unfortunately, thats the life of a sub-culture or scene from now on...rinsed today, a joke tomorrow and its lifespan is going to be a lot shorter with every new one due to the overwhelming hypefests that are social networks.paradigm x wrote: Dubstep went the way of dnb sooo quickly its sad.

next people will be selling massive presets to sound like said producer.... oh wait
