I love massive, but when I hear modern talking in a song it kinda turns me off. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, uses it!! IT`Z EVERYWHERE!!!! It has a pretty unique sound, so it´s not too difficult to notice in a production, which sucks.

I usually use digi's and rough maths with some chrome / scrapyard. Sometimes i even use the saw.

Hmm, is there a place where you can see all of the waves that massive has (like the actual waveform). It would help tons when trying to make a sound in another synth.

I thought about doing this once, sampled a few waveforms to see how they look like but it quickly felt counter-intuitive. If you're going to use another synth to sound like Massive, well... just use Massive

Its less to sound like massive, more so that I can follow the basic gist of youtube tutorials. If someone says use the Chrome wave in Massive, its far less useful than if someone says use a saw/square because now you can't take what youve learned to any other synth. same goes for numbered waves in Reason.

The problem is that the wavetables in Massive are made of several waveforms which are morphing when you turn the wt-pos knob so you'll have a hard time reproducing that with another synth.

I just wish that I could see what they look like... I have no idea if they are going to sound siney or squarey... Means I need to spend more time getting to know them I guess

Chances are none of the massive-unique wavetables are gonna sound siney or squarey, more like patches in and of themselves...

Hi there... here's a useful tip for adding that analog warmth to massive.

1) experiment with low level noise as an element to your sound. A lot of analog 'warmth' comes from noise.

2) put a very slow LFO on just about every parameter for very slight adjustment. E.g. +1 or +2 cents on tuning... a light variation on filter cutoff... go crazy with it. You can really make massive come alive by adding just a little bit of randomness to your sound.

It will be subtle, but you'd be surprised how much effect it can have on a whole track.

theres two ways i see it...

one : i try to make a fat patch inside massive

two : i try to make any thin but expressive patch in massive and rinse it thru fx...

two is usually my favourite.. so for that reason, any of the expressive patches, eg dthroat and the ones alike, are my favourites...

i try to focus on one oscillator, making it as expressive as i can.. then i look for a second one to complement it...

I've spent hours and hours on massive going through the wavetables. i know it fairly well now, but also feel like i haven't scratched the surface. theres so many ways to alter the sound, change to bend+- or formant, automate the wavetable, you can even automate the pitch spread on the unison! some of the wavetables change drastically with just the slightest twitch of the controls. i'm slowly getting better at making patches for massive and find it to be the most useful synth i have.

to the guy who said about seeing the waveform, why not use an oscilliscope plugin? or even better, just listen to the sound!

There area few other morphing synths, Albino, Omnisphere, XILS, Vember Surge. Whilts its probably long winded to go through the whole Wt-pos range, it would be a good start to have 0 and 100% waveforms
