Dear Deadmau5,

Sorry I don't have a million dollars worth of LED's and diamante encrusted masks to perform in.

Hahaha you know it Ash - some have it too easy right to bitch!

Thing is.... I can kinda see his point too, surprised more of you cant tbh! He is speaking from a producers point of view and one that has been lucky enough to be able to perform live, not an easy or cost effective way to perform and deffo not viable for up comings! I couldn’t imagine packing my studio up every weekend and bringing it around the world with me, I don’t have a team to help! If I'm lucky I get a mate to help with directions but I still carry my own bags ;P

But from a producers point of view I get him. I'd much rather go to a big night and see the artists I love than a small night n listen to every dj play older tunes by artists I love!

Oh P.s Dead5man or whatever. I went to one of your shows, your right you dont mix music, your too busy playing with lights and your silly mask! I was kinda hoping it would catch fire so I could watch him running around the stage with his silly head on fire!

P.S.S. To be fair the light show was amazing tho lol

How many people that purchase his music are some sort of DJ (from bedroom virtual DJ to actual club DJs) and how many are just random punters who enjoy his music??

I think he makes a valid point, albeit in a very very bad way.

Dont get me wrong, he comes across as a complete prick and more fool him for essetially saying fuck you to his target audience, however.....

I completely agree that DJing is limited. If we had the ability/equipment we would do live sets (im not talking ableton) each and every time.

For me in the future perhaps tracks will come broken apart and allow the DJ to create live versions with their own mark on it. Live equipment will become the standard in all clubs etc.

Who knows, I think it he makes a valid point though, just terribly.

I didn't... until now that is; I was wondering why a person with a name in l33t speak (which hasn't been cool since 2001) was the producer of the year according to an email I got from beatport a while back. His music , and I use the term loosely, seems like the background noise they use to make TV commercials for some frivolous product like deodorant. Apparently that's what sells.

Judging him solely by his work, I can't understand why anyone would get worked up by his statements: positive or negative for that matter.

i used to kind of think like that, as in like someone who doesnt produce and just plays other people tunes is a bit shit, but now i dont really think like that. i mean i probably wouldnt go see some dj who i have never heard of play tunes that i have already heard, id much rather go see someone who i like their productions or who has a shit load of dubs. but even then you listen to some mixes of just two tunes and its wicked if its done right, and like if it was done live like deadmau5 how would it be any better, i, not entirely sure what he does live, but im sure its just like having loads of loops from his tracks up separetly, so how is that any better, you can just add the drums for a different track to it, rather than start mixing in another. plus they are all synced! i think he is a prick anyway haha

This discussion is older than Christ and does not need to resurrected again.

Anyway, he doesn't have the most amazing production skill but he sure as hell knows how to make it sound good for simple chord progressions. His newer shit does suck quite bad though.

i agree with him 100%.
the days of spinning 2 bits of vinyl at once are well n truly over.
I was a trad DJ for years until its limitations got me into production, and now with the Traktor rigs DJing has finally gotten to where I wanted it 15 years ago. So much more room for creativity. Beat matching oldskool is nothing these days. A computer will do it for you! Too easy.

If a computer can beat match for you surely it can do everything else too?? I dont overly want to go to a club and see a Apple Mac doing all the mixing.....I'd just sit in my living room........or watch Chase & Status.

You must go and see some genuinely shit DJs if the only thing they bring to the table is the ability to play two records at the same tempo...

No, Friction, Andy C and Yunx can all do a lot more than get two tunes going at the same speed.

I have never seen an enjoyable live laptop set... even Shackleton was disappointing compared to what I was expecting.

I don't want to go to a concert, I want to go to a club night until I see a "live" performer be as good as Toots & the Maytals but I doubt that will ever happen.
