i would go:

horsepower productions - in fine style
rephlex grime comps 1 & 2
roots of dubstep
allstars series (start with 1, its amazing and shows you where the sound came from and what it sounded like at first, before halftime became the formula)
and i would peep the early tempa, big apple, hyperdub and dmz releases as well

for the roots, always head for horsepower straight after the two step garage of WOOKIE

the get darker history of dubstep sets that someone mentioned should be listened to aswell - even if youre already aware of the roots, just because theres some absolute crackers on there
