Hello's, Good-day's, Good-night's, I'm a newcomer and I saw this forum... thought I'd introduce myself. I joined this website hoping to learn some new things, read up some tips/advices for making Dubstep, House/(Electra), Disco and other genres based on peoples opinions and recommendations. Hopefully everyone on here is civil and able to help me out, as I will do my best in the very same way!

Thanks, P-Magic

Hello there - thought I'd oblige and make my first post in this thread, since that's what it's here for. Been reading for a while - since I got into dubstep actually - but didn't want to lurk forever.

In the grand scheme of things I've really only been listening to dubstep for a few months, maybe less. My way in was actually via the Jamie xx remix of "Fog" by Nosaj Thing. Of course, I was aware of dubstep before that but really only via the few things I'd heard on the radio; and I don't listen to much radio so the exposure was pretty much zero. Longtime drum and bass fan though, although primarily I guess I listened to mostly alternative/indie music. And still do, alongside the newfound passion. If you have any interest at all you can find me on Last.fm here: http://www.last.fm/user/hunting_bears.

In terms of the dubstep I'm listening to most it's labels like Hessle, Apple Pips, Swamp81 and Night Slugs, to name a few. Weird thing is that I guess a lot of the stuff I'm actually listening to - Pearson Sound, Addison Groove, James Blake, etc - probably isn't strictly "dubstep" in terms of it's musical composition and structure. I don't know - still learning really. On the whole genre tags annoy me but they can be useful on occasion.

Anyway, glad to be here. Thanks for all the help, tips and enjoyable reads thus far and I hope I can contribute some myself!

hello everyone! i've been pretty into grimey nasty electronic sounds my whole life (well, since puberty--ha) and now i'm nearly 22 and have definitely enjoyed dubstep and its short history so far.

anyhow, i've been making stuff of my own for about 5 years recreationally, and i've decided it'd be fun to get more involved in production communities! maybe i'll learn some shit, that sort of thing :)

here is a free mix to introduce the sort of thing i do--although a lot of my tracks vary a decent amount in sound and style.

this one is the most recent--enjoy!

I don't think I've gotten around to posting in this thread yet, so here goes.

I was introduced to the term "dubstep" through popular artists like Borgore, Bassnectar, etc, and investigated the genre further before forming a solid opinion. However, despite checking out this forum and reading through all the opinions on the whole spectrum (as well as the "New to dubstep?" guide, which I'm sad to say I found little that I liked and nothing that I loved in so far), my original opinion of the heavy, dancy dubstep that is popular now hasn't changed much. I think it's fun, has a lot of things going for it, but it is overall kind of formulaic. I understand why a lot of people are upset that the term dubstep has been hijacked from its humble origins to mean something completely different, and I know practically nothing about producing/DJing, but as a musician/theory enthusiast I like the catchy (and preferably unpredictable) hooks, complexity where I can find it, big drops, unique sounds/effects, and polyrhythms.

I would talk extensively about what I do and don't like about a song or artist (for example Skrillex's Alejandro remix, which I know gets a lot of hate here), and maybe that would help a seasoned dubstep/electronic veteran point me in the direction of something that I'd enjoy more based on that, but I think you get the gist of my perspective already. I often have an impulse to express my opinion in a lot of the threads here since I haven't heard any voice my perspective particularly well yet, but I get the feeling it'd just get drowned out since this place is so fast and has so many posters, and...

...really all I want is to have intelligent and specific discussion about the music ("Wow I love the effect used here", "He's not just using triplets, he's got 5-based grooves, sweet", "I love that glitchy bit, didn't see that coming") and some guidance towards more music that has the elements I listed in the first paragraph. So far I can't find any of the former anywhere on here, and I'm not sure how to go about the latter. If anyone wants to help me out or talk to me about dubstep, music, production, or anything really, please PM me, I'm sure we can strike up some interesting conversation.

hey, im the soup... ive been making electronic music in general for about 3 years now, but ive been making actual dubstep for maybe 6 or 7 months. ive been listening to dubstep for about 9 months, and ive grown to appreciate both super filthy tunes and older, chiller dubstep.

ive heard that this is a good community and id like to share my tunes and find some new interesting ones as well. i read the "new to dubstep" guide and thought it was kind of pretentious and dissed a ton of new artists, but whatever. ill try to keep an open mind. id also like to do some collabs, so, anyone who likes my tunes and wants to do one with me, just pm me.

Hey everyone.
I'm new here.
My name is Two-Way and I've got a radio show down in Miami where I spin dubstep/grime/funky/ and the like. Every Sunday from 8-10 p.m. EST
You can check out my show's site (I just transitioned to a wordpress from a tumblr, so it's still a little under construction) at http://wwu02.wordpress.com

I'm also in need of new music to play and would gladly play anybody's stuff (if it's good).

Take a look at some of the playlists just to get an idea of what I play.

If any of you think your stuff fits and are interested hit me up through the thread! Always good to get some trans-global airplay!

Thanks
-Two-Way
