I own an Emu E6400 Ultra. It's an amazing machine, I can't recommend it highly enough. I don't use it much anymore, as I don't have time to use hardware as much as software, but I miss it. It's z-plane filters will twist your bass and leads beyond belief. Absolutely massive.

If you have time to deal with setting up and using hardware, I highly highly recommend getting one. Get an Ultra if you go for it...

Forgot to proselytize for my other favorite machine: Waldorf XT.

Unearthly sounds, great bass, amazing control over what you're doing...

i use the small roland sampler the sp-303---its perfect for any sampling needs u have, and u can find it dirt cheap second hand usually.

I gotta rep the MPC, I love my 2000XL, all about the akai white, its got a Zone n Split function, so long (dialog & atmos) samples can be zoned then seperated to differant pads ... I like those little Boss 1s still, cant argue wif Madlib! but with an MPC or Emu you can rock SCSI with a decent amount of storage on a ZIP ...

Access Virus range for me, cant say e nuff bout em.

Just bought a Virus Ti and its the nuts. The richness in each patch is unreal in comparission to soft's. You just dont get that rich sound form a soft

MPC all the way, though the EMU samplers cant be beat either. The routing and modulation you can do to your sounds, coupled with the twisted filter set makes them mad lethal.
Big props to the Waldorf Pulse and the XT, the XT is all about wavetable synthesis which you can pull some mad atmospheres out of, and the pulse is just DIRTY. No, like really dirty. You feel like youv done something wrong after playing it.
