less expensive than other for-profit schools, with the same level of education, really. still expensive considering you can learn the same stuff online for free.

a bonus for SAE is that you can get bachelors/masters in badass beach towns in Australia, if that's your thing

yeh you can get the bachelors/masters in Europe too, but why would you when you could do the whole australia beach party town thing...

you can do your basic learning in Amdam, and then go to Byron Bay for your masters

have a backup plan though, studio work is getting really scarce these days

not just going for studio work man. And if I would do studio work, I would start my own studio anyway (after considering if it is actually possible, which I just didn't do)

One has got to do what he loves. I absolutely hate studying, I'm just not made for it. I can work hours and hours with my hands without complaining, so I'm not lazy. Studying is just not backed up in my genetic code. If I knew this, I would have done arts all my life. But my parents' influence on me always had me thinking that working with your hands or arts is for the minors (which it is anyways) but only now I realize I really don't give a fuck but I end up doing 5 years of latin and 2 more of economy. So i'm fucked, I'm practically forced to do higher studies.
The only thing I can imagine myself studying is music and audio engineering stuff. It's actually something that interests me enough to give me the motivation to actually work and study for it.

So even if the jobs are scarce, I'm gonna do it because I like it.

I went to look at SAE in Hackney a while back. They have some really nice equipment there, and they have equipment to cater for loads of different styles and needs. It's very clean, very well presented and the guy who took us around knew his stuff. I was looking at doing a recording arts course I think, or something to do with production/recording techniques. The only thing that put me off was the price as people have been saying. It was something like £18,000 for a two year course, which I just can't afford on the money I'm earning.

@knell, or anyone else who's been there: How did you go about getting the financial support for the course you did? I've looked at student loans and other loans here there and everywhere, but none of them seem to be willing to loan the amount of money I need to do the course.

I've also looked at Point Blank for production courses and things like that. Anyone have any experience with this place?

I'm kind of lucky to have wealthy parents.. But I'm sure that there is a way to get what you want/need, although I don't really know how.
Maybe just do a full time job for one year. I guess you can earn the money you need easily that way. Or option 2: the first part of the course is about 11.000 euro, but you can do it halftime so that it is spread over a period of 24 months. I think you have 15hours of lessons/practical stuff per week. So you might be able to do a part time job?

Don't feel bad, I fully understand that a lot of people are in far better financial situations than me to begin with. I'm in full-time work at the moment, but I'm just not earning enough to save up a decent amount of money if you understand... I mean I can probably save about £100 a month at most, and in a year that's only £1200 - not even 10% of the cost of the course. I'm going to have to look at either another place of study, or a better job to build up a good financial status before applying for a course that's going to have me in debt for 2+ years afterwards...

luckily, in america, financial policies are fucked up, and the government wants to put its citizens in debt slavery. So, it loans out masses of money to people who probably wouldn't even be approved for a car loan.

i was approved for over $41,000... which was well over half of what i needed to complete my studies. So, instead of being greedy, i only took the bare minimum of what i needed, which still turned out to be more than plenty... rent, food, everything included.

after i graduated, i was doing an (unpaid) internship, and working on the side. i liked to build and figure things out, and i got really lucky in selling a patent i had been working on to an up-and-coming nutrition company. this gave me enough money to pay back the loans or a few months, buy some studio equipment, live comfortably, and invest in some farmland in rural california. Got people interested in living/working on the land, so that took care of my food (which was a huge financial benefit).

the internship turned into a nice job, and the rest fell into place. all you have to do is keep thinking and stay on your toes and you can make it through the tough parts. keep yourself diversified, don't be the plain old dude who is just interested in music. i got my job because i had a wide range of skills outside of sound engineering, like programming.

that's true to an extent...

it's really really easy to get the money to go to college and get a diploma...

what it's not easy to do is get the diploma without getting stuck with a lifetime of debt...

remember the housing bubble because of sub-prime mortgages? giving money to people who couldnt possibly pay it back? well, the student loan bubble is next, mark my words
