im guessing that its just using a granulizer. but i dont know for sure.nashley wrote:what is granular re-synthesis?
Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-30
Granular synthesis (or in this case re-synthesis) is where you take a little snippet of a waveform and use it as a synthesizer would, but instead of selecting the built-in defaults (like sine, saw, square, noise, etc) it uses the snippet.

EDIT:
Thinking about this in the shower this morning... (don't ask) -
Although the above about granular [re]synthesis made perfect sense when I wrote it, it dawned on me that most all of the basslines we're gonna come up with from that 808 waveform will be - essentially - used in a granular fashion, even if it's fairly limited in implementation for most of us (restricted to a pretty narrow frequency domain more or less.)
And there are no rules against using, say, Alchemy if you own it - which does bigtime granular hoohaa out the ass.
So on second thought...
I'm going to retract what I said above and STFU for once and let somebody else mouth off.

Was that post above supposed to be in some sort of alien code? Cause that's what I see... Alien Code... Every letter has a box in between it and the next letter...
EDIT: Just realised it was my pc at work
Anyway, I got a nice, warm bassline out of that 808 sample... All I need is some saxamaphone now, but doesn't look like that's gonna happen

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-30
so say for instance someone looped the fuck out of sample and dropped the pitch way down, would this be considered re-synthesis. Sorry Im a little new
Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-30
pretty much. A lot of timestretching algorithms actually use resynthesis as a way to create artifact free timestretches - they look for portions of the sound that can be looped (usually pitched sections) and stretch those preferentially, trying to avoid the transients.nashley wrote:so say for instance someone looped the fuck out of sample and dropped the pitch way down, would this be considered re-synthesis. What you have said is like a very basic version of the above
On the other hand, granular synthesis will usually allow you to specify the length of the granule you use and various other parameters depending on the software you are using. If you do a very short loop in a sampler you are working, effectively, with a rudimentary form of granular synthesis. However what makes it really interesting is when you modulate the granule position (a bit like changing wavetable position), the original sample pitch and the granule size all at once. Instant crazy robot noises.

You can: Loop, Modulate, Timestretch, Reverse, FX, Glitch, Anything in Audacity/Goldwave/Any other audio editor, You Name IT!
Just thought I'd say that
