I mean, how can we possibly know.
But if she's old enough to be home alone, that means she should be old enough to defend herself.

When a burglars present, you never know how people are going to react. I don't think the problem would be her pulling the trigger. Of course she would, it's a matter of life and death. Problem is whether she's good shot or not.

Yeah, pretty much. I don't think you know if you're capable of firing a gun at someone until you've done it.

And judging from that video of the woman getting stripped by the cops on 'America's Largest Street Gang' or whatever it's called, women seem to fear very little as much as getting raped.

nah i actually gotta disagree with ya

i think MOST people would crumble under the pressure of having to shoot someone

there was a massive problem in Vietnam of getting soldiers to actually shoot to kill the enemy - they found in studies that a large percentage of soldiers purposefully shot high because they didnt want to seem like they were pussying out but they actually didn't want to kill someone

it happens to most people - 'if blah blah blah did blah blah i'd bang blah out for being a dick', then actual situation arises 'oh, arite blah blah blah hows it goin?'

most people are fannies at heart

thats why bullies get away with so much

im not saying either is morally better btw, im just saying thats how it is

edit: just checked this out cos i couldn't remember where i read it but i couldn't find anything so i dont know how true that actually is :dunce:

Alright, but my opinion still stands. I may be a bit biased though, I grew up around guns, and hunting so I've never had an irrational fear of shooting anything.

It adds a whole new element..some would cower in a corner I'm sure..other's wouldn't stand for it. Fight or flight type deal..

What's it got to do with anything?

Man trying to rape you

Option 1.Let him
Option 2.Shut him down.

I don't think what people do in war applies to what women do when they face potential rape.

don't speak for all of america please. we're not all lemmings, and the fear machine is for the paranoid. if you know your US history then you'll know that ever since maccarthy'ism in the late 40's and 50's, this country establishes an enemy. if there's no current enemy available, it establishes something or someone to fear. google "the second red scare".

its a systemic issue, thats prevalent in both politics, national and foreign policy. people "swim in fear" because the media inform and lead you to believe that people are swimming in fear. look at alexjones. that guy just takes a page out of 1947 separatist propaganda, and puts his name over it. and people eat it up like crackers.
Well yeah, the "not all of us" argument is obvious and can be said for anything.
I know about red scares, and that's the type of stuff I was talking about. I don't get where you were going with the "media informs you part" though, the fear is obvious from just talking to people (again "not all of us").

The only thing I have to say about Alex Jones is Justin Biebler
most americans are religiously dedicated in their media/news choices. 24hr news, by definition is a loop of information. there's people that follow fox news at home and on their phones during the day. if someone follows news that comforts them, and it delivers a narrow-minded scope of thought, eventually they start to think and be informed by that narrow-mindedness. i'm not saying that fox news doesn't have a right to their politics and dogma. all the other networks have their own set of politics too. the paranoia machine comes in when you cannot disseminate nor separate your opinion found via your own personal research, from the spoonfed opinion taken from your news sources. this is the problem in america. people think they're experts on everything, and have right to an opinion, by following the media that tells them what they want to hear.

more guns are just gonna bring even more guns and regularly...

To have every other person on the street with a gun - is just camoflauge for shooters

and besides - it's always the most paranoid trigger flippy person that reaches for a gun first..

and I completely agree with the person earlier who said
they wouldn't want a bunch of unbalanced college students running around with guns.

A gun would do nothing for me except put me that much closer to shooting someone.

Many people I've talked to mention how they will shoot someone "on their property" to protect their stuff... I mean, really wtf? I'm not talking about protecting the lives of loved ones from some nut, I mean something as stupid as vandalism or petty theft. The first reaction is all too often to react violently, because they are already expecting the other person to do the same.
I don't really understand why this is wrong. What do you expect people to do when their house is broken into? Leave and call the fucking cops? Plead with the robber to take what they'd like and not hurt anyone? Are you kidding me?

I've mentioned it a couple of times on here but a few years back a house around here got broken into while a girl was home alone and the burglars raped and tortured her.

I suppose you deluded peaceniks would have suggested she just accepted the rape, in the name of p3ace and wuv and human dethenthy?
Of course not, you didn't read the part where I said I'm not talking about protecting the lives of loved ones from some nut. I was talking about being shot at for tagging or stealing a bike. Material possessions.

If I'm not mistaken the equivalent of stealing a bike under former english common law was a felony, and punishable by death. hehe. Maybe 'Merica holds truer to former anglo ideals? :Q:

Haha in Texas it's still a criminal offense to ride someone's horse without their permission. Not many horses around anymore though.

Oh yeah definitely, anywhere there's open land you'll see more for sure. One of my dad's friends breeds them, but he said a lot of people aren't willing to spend thousands on them these days, so he started raising mini horses instead haha, for stuff like http://www.guidehorse.com

3 Hurt When 5-Year-Old Takes Gun To School

Houston police said the child took the loaded gun to Ross Elementary, 2819 Bay St., on Tuesday.

Investigators said the kindergarten students were in the cafeteria when the gun fell out of his backpack and discharged about 10:20 a.m.

Three kindergarten students were injured, but none was shot, detectives said. The injuries ranged from powder burns to scrapes.

The student who took the gun to school was among those injured, Houston Independent School District officials said.

Investigators are working to determine where the child got the gun.
