What should i buy?

Post by Juzzy » Fri Mar 11, 2011 6:00 am

Okay its my birthday tommorow and im going to a store called JB Hifi to go buy something. Now i need some software and equipment to make dubstep.

What equipment should i get out of these?

Numark 2 Channel DJ Mixer

Numark 3 Channel Scratch DJ Mixer

[url] http://www.jbhifi.com.au/jb-hi-fi-home- ... sku-24974/ [url]

or

Numark Mixtrack Software Controller

[url] http://www.jbhifi.com.au/jb-hi-fi-home- ... sku-97755/ [url]

I was thinking of buying the last one.

What software should i buy to make dubstep?

NI Digital DJ Software

or

NI Traktor Pro DJ Software

[url] http://www.jbhifi.com.au/jb-hi-fi-home- ... sku-52180/ [url]

Im thinking to make remixes i should firstmix it with the equipment so its like a basic remix, save it, then mix it again with the DJ software to add the dubstep effect to it.

You can't produce dubstep with DJ'ing equipment.
edit:not sure what your definition of "make" is.

I know i cant make dubstep with DJ'ing equipment but i can make techno or remixes with it. Also, can i make dubstep with that software?

:u: Your approach at this is all wrong.
1.If you haven't had experienced with DJing before you probably shouldn't blow a shit ton of money on something that you don't know what it does.
2. Check out a trial of Virtual DJ and maybe consider that.
3. If you actually want to produce music then you want to be looking for a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_workstation
4. Just do some research

none of this is production software. this is all DJ equipment...

production software would be:

reason
fruity loops
cubase
logic

etc etc etc

traktor is like serato - a digital dj interface. i.e instead of using vinyl you use your laptop and hardware. but obviously you need to have turntables, mixer and speakers before you get that. might be an idea to learn how to dj first too. you can't make tunes on these things - dubstep, techno or otherwise.

this.

it's good that you're keen and have the readies but it would be an idea to know what you're buying first.

you'll only be disappointed if you rush out, spend all your cash, get it home and its all the wrong stuff!

Also remember that you don't need the best gear in the world to make quality music. It will save you a lot of money.

i dont think you understand what remix is. its not just playing 2 tracks over the top of each other. thats just mixing.

if you want to MAKE music then dont buy any of this stuff, this is all DJ equipment.

Typically, the percussion will pause, often reducing the track to silence, and then resume with more intensity, accompanied by a dominant subbass

build up a record collection, learn to mix/scratch/juggle/whatever (scratch and juggle!? what is this 1993!?)
talk to mates who are also doing this sort of thing
research
piss about on trials of like serato and Traktor and get the feel of them
trials of like Logic and Fruity loops or whatever

i dont mean to offend but this made me  SOSO hard.
in all seriousness thoug dont buy ANYTHING yet. find some people who know whats goin on with production, DJing and the difference between the two hahaha and if they are nice enough they will hopefully be glad to show you the ropes... nothing better then a helping hand and a face to talk to abt this stuff
