Re: Burning in headphones?
There's a similar thing with acoustic guitars. Over time and years of playing, the wood will expand from the sound vibrations and the tone of the guitar will also change slightly (sometimes for better, sometimes for worse).
With this same concept, I can see how burn-in would work when dealing with speakers. Playing loud music (within reason) will expand the cone slightly, which will allow more room for expansion when playing bass-heavy music at louder levels after said burn-in time. Personally, I noticed a bit more ability with both my headphones and computer speakers to handle heavier bass at louder levels without horrid amounts of distortion after "burning them in" for an hour or so.

Re: Burning in headphones?
I don't know the first damn thing about this but wouldn't expanding or warping the cones in any way color the sound, which would be bad for accurate monitoring? This could be the most stupid tnuc thing ever said on these forums for all I know though so take it with a grain of salt if i'm completely off base.elendarsilvermoon wrote:There's a similar thing with acoustic guitars. When I got my ultrasones I put them in a draw and played pink noise through them whilst not in use. I recommend pink noise - just google it and set up a loop on iTunes or whatever ('pink noise loop' is now officially the mist played track in my library, but hey). An yeah, 1 hour's not enough, you need 30/40+ hours
Re: Burning in headphones?
yeah i know that lol...i made pink noise with audacity and looped that though and I was just sayin how I saw some little improvement after one hour...nothing huge or even really noticeablelevitate wrote:When I got my ultrasones I put them in a draw and played pink noise through them whilst not in use. i doubt 1 hour made a difference. and even if it did i doubt youd be able to tell.jrisreal wrote:yeah i know that lol...i made pink noise with audacity and looped that though and I was just sayin how I saw some little improvement after one hour...nothing huge or even really noticeablelevitate wrote:When I got my ultrasones I put them in a draw and played pink noise through them whilst not in use. im pretty torn about the burn in factor. some swear by it and some say it does nothing.
i always go easy on my subs n speakers the first couple weeks just in case. then i slowly start to give em juice

Re: Burning in headphones?

Re: Burning in headphones?
How you can remember exactly the way something sounded 12 hours before amazes me. I can't do it. If there was a difference with burn in I would never be able to tell. I would like to compare and older pair of cans to the same pair brandspanking. Should put it to bed pretty quickly but I have never had the opportunity.
Re: Burning in headphones?
only thing i care about is how much they costed...
nah seriously.. i wouldnt care about it that much... and id burn them ANYWAYS as id listen to music i like for a few days before even trying to make music out of any headphone/speaker...

Re: Burning in headphones?

- still thinking its a weird idea since before producing id use them at least 12 hours listening to music i like with them...

Re: Burning in headphones?
I think its just something like that since the headphones will not be in the same shape for their entire life-span the manufacturers design it so that after a certain amount of use it will shift into the final shape and produce the sound that they were meant to give.Ldizzy wrote:what type of improvement should this bring? be somewhat exact plz.
