People have free choice and they freely choose to eat at McDonald's. It's not my preference, but it's partly gotten where it has because people enjoy the service and product they provide. I'd feel like a fascist if I would try to take that away from them simply because it's not my preference. The problem of those corporations (and corporations in general) is the influence they have on the market through government policy. But that's a hole in government legislation.

Naa nothing incriminating to my knowledge. No idea if there were any petrol bombs, the police used that as justification for raiding the squat they have no right to enter, 'bomb squad' looking for materials like...bottles and rags. Did hear explosions and lots of fire, who knows.
You really do need to know the area to have any sort of idea what you're talking about.
I'll reiterate, this is the 31!THIRTY FIRST!31 Tesco in Bristol. No one is removing anyone's right to shop at Tesco, just don't ruin the livelihood of the local businesses, you know, those real people with jobs this actually effects. There is one 300yards up the road, followed by a Sainsbury's and then another Tesco...

think your missing the point. tesco could have a huge affect on local businesses, the locals want to keep the businesses local. it's not about boycotting tesco as a whole, just that one there in that area.Genevieve wrote:I don't consume anything from those corporations. but is it a Tesco Express? People NEED that. Clearly. So excited they were trying to shop there before it even opened!wubstep wrote:There is one 300yards up the road, followed by a Sainsbury's and then another Tesco...
in all seriousness tho how did this seem like a smart business move for them?
Re: Bristol Riot
I know and if the locals want to keep Tesco out, they would not go shopping there and Tesco would go out of business. So no need for destructive violence.deesee wrote:think your missing the point. tesco could have a huge affect on local businesses, the locals want to keep the businesses local. it's not about boycotting tesco as a whole, just that one there in that area.Genevieve wrote:I don't consume anything from those corporations. Re: Bristol Riot
Companies like tesco can take losses on stores like this, just to be there, just to suck what little they can out of the local economy, and slowly drain their local, smaller competitors.

Tesco - The Supermarket that's eating Britain - Dispatches Channel 4

"Tesco is Britain's favourite supermarket. With 2,000 stores and 15 million customers a week, it's almost twice as big as its nearest rival. Dispatches shows how Tesco could soon become even bigger, and asks if this retail giant is abusing its power."

Re: Bristol Riot
I noticed on the news, C5, it talked about this in a negative light about the rioters but in particular how when they set fire to the store 2 security guards were inside. I bet Tesco's policy for those guards actually requires them to stay in the store in certain dangerous situations that when you read in to it is just appalling as moral code. Other places have similar policies as when I worked at TK Maxx the procedure for if there was a bomb scare was that all the general workers had to evacuate but once everyone was out the managers had to back in to find the bomb
I do not know how that is legal or moral in the slightest (this actually happened in the Sheffield store, too)
