Howzit guys. Gavin here from South Africa. Been enjoying dubstep for about 2 years now and starting to play around in Fruity Loops. I'd like to have at least one decent track to my name! Fav artists are Mt Eden, Skism, Cyberoptix, Skream, Emalkay, Flux Pavilion, there are so many!

So what kind of welcome can newcomers expect here then? We've got some FILTHY dubstep we'd like to share but then again doesn't everyone?
Anyone gonna hold our nOObie hands so we get the most out of this site? Anyone...?
This tune's called The Chinese Spare Rib Drumstep VIP Mix produced by Midnight & Vermin. Enjoy....

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
Hi Guys, female music lover from Melbourne, Australia.. have explored so many different genres over the years as i've grown up and from that i've found an appreciation for many different styles. Starting out in Punk as a rebellious 13 year old, travelling through metal, commercial dance, hard trance, hard style, electro, fidget with a huge side of Aussie Hip Hop and a sprinkling of everything in between. I'd heard a little bit of "dubstep" along the way, i didnt mind the odd song or two but nothing really grabbed me at the time, Melbourne had a huge hard trance/hardstyle "rave" scene back then so i didn't have any desire to search for something to fulfill me. Hardstyle turned into a horrible pretentious marching band style that made me want to scratch my eyes out so i went right off dance music and found a new love in Aussie Hip Hop. Anywho, Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites was recommended to me after a call to a radio station, i had to give 3 example songs and they had to try and find something new and upcoming to match those choices, i made it hard.. Tool, Crystal Castles and Bliss N Eso. I enjoyed the song, i had heard it before but this was the first time i actually LISTENED to it. Bought a couple of his tracks and really liked it! I was always a fan of music that was a bit odd, Bikini Kill (riot grrl punk), Blood Brothers (screamo punk), Crystal Castles (genre meh?) etc.. i could feel those influences mixed in with the bass influence of my "raver" days.. PERFECT.. for me.
On talking to a friend about my new interest in Skrillex, he crapped on about brostyle and how it was ruining dubstep.. i honestly had no idea on the difference in the genres as i still hadn't gone much further than browsing youtube. Found this article http://dancefever5000.wordpress.com/201 ... s-brostep/ .. oh no, another genre full of people arguing about the borderlines between "sub-genres" and segregation between old and new.. this happened in the hard trance / hardstyle scene, jaded ravers constantly whinging that it's not the same anymore.. well no, it's not, music evolves, it always has and it always will. If you don't like it, lock yourself in your room, listen to your tunes on repeat and spend your days bitterly expressing your opinions to someone who cares.. aka yourself.
i'm looking forward to exploring the wider genre of dubstep and having healthy debates about the past, present and future trends within, but i do hope the article isn't correct with it's statement that a large number of members are quick to shoot down others who don't share their same opinions.
Didn't mean to start on such a sour rant, but a quick browse of the forum before posting this has already made me feel unwelcome and gives the impression that most of the "old school" kids are unwilling to accept newbies such as myself.
Anyway, i'm off to do some more reading, hopefully i learn something.

Hi folks!
After some time of only reading stuff on the boards here I finally registered. I'm based in Austria, I like a pretty vide variety of not only electronic music ... well, seems like you're having a cool multinational community here, looking forward to contribute

Hey there. I'm from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I've recently been getting pretty heavy into producing, it's a great way to have fun and express myself. I'm also in metal and punk bands and love all types of music, which really helps me when I go to produce. I've been making some dubstep in the style of early jungle/dnb influenced dubstep, as well as some psychedelic experimental stuff. I look forward to talking with you guys

Whatsup everyone,
Derek Sabiston here. Grew up making hip hop tracks for friends and toying around with programs and drum machines. Started creating mashups as a hobbyist that my friends and I could play at parties. Started producing with ableton summer of 2010. Getting the hang of things and hoping to start creating more and more !
