i wouldnt say we hate them the most. there plenty of other countrys that hate the states alot more than us.

We don't hate the US in general, we just find the average American really stupid (probably not their fault given the appalling education system and manipulation of the media) and their foreign policy atrocious (Operation Iraqi Liberation, anyone?) I think the average UK resident would be be more pissed off at our own politicians, wouldn't you agree?

The average American may be less educated as a whole, but that has nothing to do with intellect. This is something some of your countrymen do not understand.

As someone who teaches on the weekends for an AI school, your country as a whole hands out degrees for Digital Media/Graphic design that is on par with a second year student in the USA. You can be smug with be better generally educated, but your level of specialized education is questionable.

Truth is every brit I've ever met outside of a messageboard is able to distinguish the difference between americans and american stereotypes.... and the majority of the true haters of the US have never spent a minute in this country and their only knowledge comes from the internet

Sorry, I never said our education system was better or this country better than yours. I merely giving impression I have got from the 90% of Americans I have met which is probably around 50, I went to a school with a large American army base nearby and occasionally bump in to Americans - I have had 1 refute 'the' stereotype slightly (I go to uni with her) and I would like to know otherwise as well as I can tell there are lots of decent people with a brain in their heads from watching internet broadcasts of speeches, newsletters etc though not on commercial media (the clever people are the ones making the shows, the ones doing the talkings are just puppets). Also, I have read statistics from several surveys of education performance (in one recent global survey quoted in the Economist and other national newspapers America came about either 33rd or 23rd, it was sub-par on expectations and so was ours) and other, more technical reports about what is wrong with America's schools (and our own). When I am talking about education I am talking about education but it does have an influence on intellect as if no-one teaches people critical thinking it is quite possible they will never learn it - that is a major component of analytical thinking needed to wade through the bullshit thrown at people in everyday life and it sometimes seems like it is deliberately not taught to keep people stupid so they'll believe what they're told.
Good job I'm not a 'true hater' of the USA either, I have a genuine belief America can do good things but the average American is manipulated by corporations and political propaganda. All of my friends that have been say in general it's just like what we see in the media, if not worse as there's no gloss attached, though they still have an enjoyable holiday in Disneyland (not my cup of tea) and seeing the natural landscapes. I would quite like to go to America and chill with the natives, actually. Unfortunately I am put off living there as it does not seem like an overall nice place to live due to random crime (notice how I said 'random' not rampant, it's not that bad in some areas judging from stats) like shootings and car jackings but to have economic equality that puts people in to shanty towns while living in the world's 'biggest economy' would be a joke if it wasn't so serious.
The UK is far from perfect, however, and the average UK citizen has many of the same problems the average USA citizen has (I'm not sure about Canada or south America so I refrain from saying 'American') so we would be far better off showing mutual respect (as I hope you intend to receive this as). As higher education goes anyway, though the UK takes 4/5 of the top spots generally a lot of our higher education institutes are not on a par with ones similarly ranked in the USA (probably due to the huge financial backing we don't get, USA heads are much more 'philanthropic' than we are but there are a lot more rich people so that's probably why - even giving less per head is going to make a difference if there are more people giving). Our compulsory general education system is still better though I'm beginning to wonder if there's going to be any difference if we don't have some reforms!

Of course, people should always be given the benefit of the doubt but some 'fit the mould' perfectly and, sometimes unfortunately, reliably (and might even like and choose it that way). Sometimes this is good, sometimes it is bad. It is just a way of being and if people can reflect on it honestly and without manipulation then that is their 'choice' (consciousnesscould to be an epiphenomenon). Some people say conformity is bad, some say individualism is bad. Intent in actions is probably more important than the action itself, though this could be argued otherwise.

I don't know, maybe a fucking apology is in order? I hear this whole "people from the states are generally stupid" argument, yet we've walked on the moon, and created almost everything people use today. With all the supposed geniuses walking around England you'd figure it would be the other way around. Of course, it is quite possible that all their intelligence is just wasted on slashing Americans in forums. This and the majority of you are well spoken, but without anything to prove in recent history, other than speech and debate, what do you have on us? Maybe we should start embracing our similarities?
