@Dougriley - Cool little vibe going here man. Very tight and very in control. Good use of elements coming in and out which does wonders in maintaining interest. Really do dig the little funky vibe it brings out.. Nice hard hitting snare too btw..

@Darj - love it. The song has a ton of draw to it. Really catchy and is deff a tune id be proud of. I think what will really bring this tune out is a proper mixdown to bring in everything tighter. I cant properly comment on the mix till later but it sounds good. Excellent work

@Traffek - Deff has a groove to it. Like the play of hats to draw into the groove from the start. I cant tell if the hats are placed a little too loud in the mix but they sound best at 1:36 when the most is going on in the song so that could be the case earlier in the mix. For as much as i get into the song i feel like i may trail off in interest before it gets to the best part for me which is also at the second drop at around 1:35. Good work brotha

@zerbaman - nice roller man! really well produced! excellent sound quality, i like the kinda bell/wind instrument synth alot! fm synthesis? i would say the tambarine and then the ride could perhaps have more of a interesting pattern which could give the track some more dynamics?

this is an update of a track i put up the other day and want some feedback on what ive changed before i go further down this road. Also first time people are telling me to use some incidentals... im guessing jsut reverbed out hits etc? Thanks in advance!

Soundcloud
Thanks man
I like your tune, the way that bell-ish sound kicks in, I do feel though, it may be nice to have another melody, not just the arpeg that comes in later, something ealier, more swingy, just to keep things interesting, kinda filling in frequencies and building the tune up. I like the second set of synths that come before the break down

The sound I think your talking about is a processed & resampled rhodes sequence, most of the elements are made of different pianos, reversing etc.. Hope it gives some ideas! :)

Here's another I'm working on, any words of wisdom on this?

Cheers, got one, still doing structural work, dunno whether I shoulod have it on the drop, or bring it in later. It goes like "dee doo daaa eeee ddaa waa wob wob wahhhh" :mrgreen: , with lots of delay of course :P

I like your tune though man, can't hear the sub because of these shitty headphones, but what I can hear reminds me of old Flukes tunes, and the other old grime instrumentals I used to listen to when I was younger, BIG. :t:

@raincoatdisaster
i love all the movement happening. very intense track :corndance: i been hearing alot of new producer making similar (sound wise) type tracks im really likeing where its going. personally i would lower the synths just a bit and maybe some transient shaping on the kick and a bit more EQ :W: you got your self a follower on a soundcloud :-)

well heres another WIP im working on :i: cant lie...i played the new Mortal Kombat and had to do this :cornlol: (dont hate :dunce: )

New Tune: I think it's approaching being finished but I wanted to get some feedback as you guys normally come up with good stuff!

It is my dubstep interpretation of an alien invasion!

@ dougriley: Cheers for the feedback man. You'll get a 320 of the finished tune for giving feedback so you'll get to see where it goes! Have cleaned up the bass now like you said. Maybe take a listen to the updates I've put in? I think I may have ruined the track tbh, haha.

Your tune: Like the acoustic guitar - Sampled or recorded yourself? Funny little effect noise is really cool too! At 13 seconds there is a sound that has a single delay on it, that needs EQing! It has a lot of content around 1.2kHz (guess) that needs to be notched. Nice build up before the drop. I'm REALLY digging the high pitched bit layered over the bass, makes it funky and listenable. A little more danceable as well! Bass needs to be turned down in the mix and it sounds like you may have overlapping of the bass and sub bass...? I may be wrong though.. If not, you need to turn it down between 100Hz and 300Hz. Structuring of the tune is great and I think this'll be a blinder!

@ Debaser1 : Cheers mate, glad you like! Thanks for the feedback too, you made a good point although I like the sub bass in there so I just shortened the notes a lot so it doesn't have as much of an impact, cheers.

I was going to give a run down on your track but alas it has vanished!

@ Fused Productions: Lovely atmosphere in the intro, sub bass sits very well there... Ooh dubby style creeping in, very well executed. Slightly glitchy too, I like that! Vocal keeps it interesting. I'd like to see a very short slapback delay on the vocal I think! Good groove to the track. I'm at 1 min 36 now and I'm definitely feeling it needs a new element. It has a little more shuffle now but needs more! Haha, cool build up! Bass has dropped, is there a bit of release on the bass? I think the release needs to be taken off.. It's also very low middy..? Nice sound but is gagging for some notching around 200 - 500 Hz methinks.. Speed building is nice! Overall, good direction and looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

@ Cubicle : Instant love for this track, I like the dissonance between the piano and the pad. I think the piano needs a little more verb to sit better in the mix though.. Just to make it sit in a room, no more than 700ms decay. WHOOAAAAA!! The bass is sick. Takes the track to a whole other level. Mate, once your mixing of the first section is down this is going to be a belter. Going to be looking out for this one!

@ mr_ooze: I like the name first off! haha. Massive on my Power Rangers! I like the hats, very old jungle vibe. From 27 seconds, it sounds SO much more polished than the start does. I think those hats are gagging for some EQing because the rest sounds so good and the hats become a distraction for me! Really digging it... Vocal sample coming in now, nice! Maybe needs to be turned down a little with some short feedback. SICK bass!! Mate, am really digging this tune. You obviously haven't done your mixing so I think it's unfair to comment on which sounds don't sit well but when they DO - This is going to be a belter!!

@ Danimal: Liking what I hear so far, synths fit very well together and the percussion sounds like it is there to back up the synths which I like.. I think maybe the hats shouldn't come back in after 21 seconds as it means you aren't really ready for the drop.. Oh I see!! That first drop was just a PRE DROP, haha. This is sick. Am loving it now, great job mate

@Ascian - Another Planet - dude i like the build up, its what im tryn to work on now, kinda having a hard time with pads though.. the other thing i like about your track, is the way it breaks with the stops.. very nice!! i've heard mixed reviews about this technique but i like using them as well. Im also diggn the sample were not alone and have never been alone... i've been tryn to use things like this as well... people seem to disagree with me alot though... everyone likes happy, upbeat female vocals or gangster souless crap these days it seems.

heres something i've tryn to do with builds an atmospheres... what do you think?

@jimbeaux

Very atmospheric, try to build it into something. Only criticism would be that the snare/clap is too harsh, I'd personally keep the sparseness of the beat but go for something a bit more of a shuffle to it.

@Ascian

Very powerful kick and sub. Love the build-up (I feel that a kick with a bit less punch would bring this section out more but it works well in the main section) and drop but that vocal sample is a bit overpowering, knock it down a few dBs. Interesting bass stuff but it feels like it needs more variation or something to liven it up.

That cymbal at 1.22 is brilliant, haha.

@TheBassTest

Very eerie intro but that main bassline almost made my ears bleed. Maybe a bit too grating.

This track is annoying me, I reckon it's good (a bit depressing) but I don't know where to take it. Just a warning, it's not as heavy as a lot of the stuff on this page haha.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Kind of "remixing" the whole track right now, considering what you said :)
Anyone who gave feedback will have a free 320 when done, if you want one of course!

And some more feedback :corndance:

@ Ascian Shit man I really like your tunes! Even when they're on the brosteppy side of dubstep they're still very good thought out. Oh shit I can sense Cookie Monsta in here! THis sounds a little bit better than most his tunes do though.. I would bring the vocals down though, just the tiniest bit. And for the drop, bring it up just when he says planet, that would make it feel mor like it's something cruicial. Mybe use another well worked high pitched synth over the dirtier part of the bassline. Hope I'm helping!

@TheBassTest The intro is nice and kind of scary, I feel like som one left behind in the movie and I think some heavy bassline is incoming? I thin that sound that sounds like some one puking should be taken out or replaced, there is also something about those hihats, they kind of pierce my ears I don't know what's wrong.. Haha as I expected dirty bass! Sounds pretty aggressive man, kinda like it but I think you could fit a couple of incidentals in there like some bleep or something. Work it out mate :)

@jimbeaux Nice, nice, nice! Think you should add another element to your snare thoug, to give it a little punch. Maybe it's not what your after but I feel it would need that. And that reversed crash sounds like it doesn't belong.. In some way it just takes a little of the groove from the beat. Just my opinion though. You could make something extremely awesome out of this!

High quality vocal samples. Grimey Bass and High Ringing Synths really make this song sick. Drums are on point too mate. I appreciate the feedback too mate. made me LOL

@Ascian
Nice synthwork there man, I feel though, that the track needs a bit more going on, maybe some melodies, maybe just making the basslines sound fuller some how, just lacking in some frequencies imo. Maybe get more intricate with the drum programming?
Though I do applaud & appreciate your sample selection, any indication as to where I could acquire these? :P

@zerbaman - damn man, your track is freakn amazing dude! the overall vibe really positive. i really like the layered synth melodies an drum breaks alot. great work man!!

@nruen - im diggn the 8bit sounds in the beginning! I like the sounds in the second half the best, that tune could be crazy with some good drum work on the drop. nice one man!

@TheBassTest - nice one man, i was played mortalkobat for like 12 hours an got crazy good with kunglao.. lol.. but your track is good man, the build is a kinda bare i'd add more layering. the drop is good, the midrange bass is kinda harsh, i'd eq it some an bring the highs down a tad. also the crash sounds kinda cheap. but this is def a good start for sure!

@raincoatdisaster - brain freeze is great dude. the synth work is really nice, and i'm def diggn the square wave wobs. the drums all sound good and the structure in the builds keeps you waiting just right! i hear alot of styles an influences in this one.

here's another i've been struggling on.... it seems like its missing something... or maybe its just to much all together... been messn with it for a while an im not completely happy with it.

nruen-the intro is too long in my opinion. or just not exciting enough for me or something. it makes me wanna skip it. eh i dunno this one just isnt my style.

ascian-the intro is too plain in this one for me. the drop is pretty sick. fuckin trippy! i cant think of anything else to critize haha. this sounds legit

heres what ive got so far on this.

sprayyypaint- all id say is maybe add a synth melody hugher up like a pad or something, also eq your bass because your kicks virtually invisible otherwise nice track mate
jimbeaux- needs more incidentals and oneshots to keep it fresh in the intro, good track overall though mate, maybe also think about an atmospheric melody in the background just to fill the space a bit.
nruen- nice vibe on the intro, maybe have a slightly more prominent kick in there, maybe work on the structuring of the track after the drop, it wanders and becomes a bit aimless.
Heres what im doing atm:

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback i received !

@Cheeky : Your sub is too low, and there's no hat, did you Forget them ?

@Spraypaint : Your drums are really low, it seems not mixed, but i like the reverbed lead :)

@Jimbeaux : Not so bad :p Twisted track nothing else to say... keep it up :corndance:

@Ascian : Your track is pretty good but i think it is a bit too low, not enough brightness ( i can't find words in english sorry )

@raincoatdisaster : Good job, i really like punchy tracks like this. Just try to make your kick a bit louder to improve rythmic on the track.

@Zerbaman : This is a very nice tune, trying to find something wrong... but i don't. Good Job !

Ok so there's a tune i made today, i used one of the pads of my last WIP for the intro ( loving this pad ). I'm pretty satisfied of what i did, it still needs a bit more mixdown but i'm done for today :p
Thx for listening

@Darj - Cool different stuff man, keep it up!

@Cheeky - Sounds good to me, not really my cup of tea though. And I think you should mix it up a bit more, but you definitely got something going on here! :)

@jimbeaux - Wow I love that sound! Really nice and dark wobbles man, really good work on this one, keep it up!

What would you guys suggest?

I also got this attempt as a neurofunk bass!

Feedback
@Darj
Loving the intro at the moment, reminds me of the stuff that I like!
Absolutely loving the contrast between the dark intro and the uplifting body! So far its hard to suggest what to improove, everything sounds darn good to me!
Only thing I can think of making the final part slightly different somehow, perhaps add in another pad over the top or sommit?

@Cheeky!
Again love the intro! I think the kick throughout is a bit week, it could be layered with a meatier kick me tinks to give it more oomph! That wobble sounds pretty nice tho! I think a sub would add to this brilliantly keeping it minimal yet heavy!

@Sprayyypaint
Deffo need to EQ that kick, barely audible! Otherwise loving the wobble!

@ezeckia- I don't know the original, but it reminds me a lot of screamadelica, the Primal Scream album. Pretty cool! I like rock music with some dance influence and it doesn't sound like you just threw 'dubstep' or 'wobbles' on top of a track and called it done, so ups for that.

@Darj- I like the noises in the intro, like the dragging sound. The first thing that hit me when the track dropped is that it's too slow. It'd be interesting to hear it at ~150 like a proper dance tune. It has more of that feel. Or maybe just not at half time. It's pretty good imo but I just think it'd work better in straight time, but i haven't heard it like that so it's just speculation.

@cheeky Someone else said that there weren't any accent drum hits. Some of that would fill it out, same with a sub.

@jimbeaux- I'd see how it sounds with a strong sub-bass line underneath the wobbles. Remember, make the skank in the empty parts. The stuff you have now is fine, but it's like looking at a picture that's only been partially colored in. Now you get to do the background that makes your picture pop out. If that was there, I think you'd find that you filled it out and have done enough :)

Soundcloud

Is me going for a sort of DMZ or Kryptic Minds type of sound. My second try at doing a song with wobble as the main thing.

@ezeckial - Great idea to remix Nine Inch Nails, such an awesome song. In my opinion your remix needs more of your own original elements and less of the original song. Your drop at 1min 30sec is top banana. I would base the whole song around that drum beat and then go through the track and detail it to keep it interesting. Keep up the good work!

@Darj - Your tune has a lovely smiley feel to it, my girlfriend would like it :) The glitchy/8 bit sounds are rocking. One criticism would be that the build up needs to "build up" more, chuck some incidental sounds in there and possibly some underlying notes to harmonise with the echoey stabs. Nice one!

@sprayyypaint - Heavy :) It sounds like you have mastered the bass sound my friend. Your drums just need to be punched through with some compression/EQ'ing and possibly even some sidechaining. If you want any advice on my techniques drop me a PM!

Here is a remix I am currently working on for a release in May.
Ya know when you've listened to a track so much that it's in your head, face and ears on full volume even when you are trying to sleep or eat or pretend your listening to your partner?
