Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
I've only had it for a day and I think its my new favorite synth, tons of possibilities with this one
Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
The technical aspect of how it works is amazing, but I haven't seen it produce anything a subtractive synth can't. It's a really nice easy interface though.
Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
Look at the way it can shift and slide pitches within itself, no subtractive can do that.

And it does seem to have an inordinate amount of LARGE, very nice sounds. More so than massive even, to draw the obvious comparison.

Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
Ahhh, went back to Lazerbass and like you say, I understand it much better now that I've experimented with Razor, however, Razor's layout is still WAY more user friendly and tweakable. And I even still have gripes about that. Where's the option to adjust how positive or negative the lfo affects the parameter. I.E. always above the x axis or whatever. It is always modulating equally above and below the x axis, which is kinda wack, considering how easy it'd be to include such a feature. Why does NI always struggle with LFO's? Seems such a simple concept. Massive's numerical LFO system is FUCKED. Look to Lennardigital for cues on how to set up an LFO. Jus sayin...

What's the x axis here? The current value of what ever is being modulated?Grime Syndicate wrote:I.E. always above the x axis or whatever. It is always modulating equally above and below the x axis, which is kinda wack, considering how easy it'd be to include such a feature.

Well, an LFO usually has the option to affect whatever it's modulating positively, negatively, or some combination of both. (I.E. making the cutoff on the filter go either up, down, or up and down.) THIS LFO, well, it only has one setting, modulating the source both positively and negatively equally.
The blue portion is the positive bit, in the photo. Above the x axis, feel me?

Oh, i read this wrong. I could've been much more brief and said, simply, yes.nowaysj wrote:What's the x axis here? Got it, rate it.. not to happy with it being reactor only, NI trying to make more money... but the sounds are nice, bit of a cpu slut.. but th modulation capabilities are nice.
Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
Then you can just decrease the lfo modulation destination's initial value by the amplitude of the lfo's modulation, and the lfo is entirely positive. If you follow? hehe! Maybe I still don't follow?

why do you just move the waveform in the LFO? depending on its position, will affect the sound the way you are explaining it.... but hey I dont know anything appearently...Grime Syndicate wrote:Well, an LFO usually has the option to affect whatever it's modulating positively, negatively, or some combination of both. Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
So, are there any tunes using this synth yet? I'd be interested to hear what it can do! Any of you had any success with it? Or any pro tracks out there that use it?
Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
I bought a copy, but I haven't actually put it in a full tune yet, it's a real CPU monster and I wouldn't say it stands up to massive tbh, really nice high freq's though, I intend to spend a day just resampling the shit out of it and will post the results when I do!! It says on the website that Boys Noise is using it, couldn't see what tunes, if any, he's using it on though!VirtualMark wrote:So, are there any tunes using this synth yet? Pretty much massive with some cool Visual screen for the basslines! Woohoo!

Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
I have a copy too, i'm just not very good at using it yet. Didn't seem to be a lot of options like there are in massive. In fact, i don't know why people keep comparing the two, they're completely different. I'd be interested to hear razor in a tune tho, as it has a pretty distinctive sound. It is a bitch on the cpu tho, i only have a dual core laptop, and when i bring in razor to a tune, i sometimes have to start bouncing everything else to free up cpu.
Re: Native Instruments Razor (new 'filth' plugin)
You should remember that promo video's hardly cover any of the possibilities of a specific synth, certainly if it's NI.
(Massive promo video wasn't that great, neither are the factory patches tbh, and yet it's a very good synth)
I'd like to test it whenever I see the opportunity though, it looks like fun.
