I didn't enjoy that at all. I like the set up that they have, huge amount of potential in that but the music itself was awful.

Watching the crowd was fantastic though.

The problem with live electronic music is that too much of it is loop based which is BORING AS FUCK.

I can't stress that enough, I've never heard a loop based track that I've found interesting unless they have some prerecorded loops for different sections of a track. Just adding and adding on top of it until it's a mess and then cutting it out and bringing it back in is awful.

I'm part of a electronic act that is semi-live I guess you would say.

Our set up is 3 of us:

Me - DJ, Synths, MPD, Percussion, Bass
2nd Guy - DJ, synths, Percussion, Guitar
3rd Guy - Keytar [It's mandatory :6: ]

Anyhow, we change the instrumentation every track and often during a track. The way we work it is with backing tracks, we take turns mixing the backing tracks in to eachother so as to keep it flowing and not individual tracks. We also do controllerism, manipulating the backing tracks a good bit.

We then perform all the main parts [bar the drum track generally, except for certain parts where one of us is using the mpd. This keeps the entire thing solid and with a robust electronic feel without having to have all of us wearing headphones with click tracks which we feel sorts of seperates you from the crowd, we find being able to hear the crowds reaction pretty important to guaging them rather then seeing facial expressions going CLICK CLICK CLICK].

Anyhow, point is that we don't claim ourselves to be fully live or anything, we try to bridge it to get the best of both worlds. Often it's about putting on a good show. If you're playing a simple riff on a guitar over a backing track going mental it is a hell of a lot more entertaining and rewarding then leaning over a laptop screen twisting knobs and triggering loops.

Just my thoughts on this style.

On a side note: I really wish those Behringer controllers were compatible windows 7.

They are publically air ploughing eachother, it's fantastic. And the entire crowd is chanting "middle aged".

i think it's hilarious that a middle aged jamband can have a sustainable sideproject such as eoto and make as much as they do playing to fairly large crowds (by american edm standards, at least).

Tonight in Cincinnati you can see these guys for $30 + "convenience charge" or you can come to my show with Joe Nice for $7.

Trying to create an opinion on them based on youtube videos is just absurd. EOTO is amazing live, and if you haven't seen them play live then you don't know shit and are missing out. Their pretty big up here in Minneapolis and their coming back to town for Cinco De Mayo. And I laugh at you fools who think you perform better live music then they. EOTO are one of the top live electronic music groups around, they enjoy what they do, and the people at their shows enjoy what they do. They're just out there having fun, and it shows. They're also going to be some of the main performers at both the Electric Forest and Summer Camp music festivals this year, both I'm going to attend. No bias intended.

sometimes i'm really ashamed to be from here. but then i think of all the amazing techno that comes through and is from this city that i get to see weekly and then i feel slightly better.

just a shame so many of the early dubstep converts here decided to pack it up once the brostep bandwagon got in full gear.....
