Hang tight you for missing the point completely.
Dreadlocks are SUPPOSED to be clean, every proper dread I know (I know REAL Bobos) keeps their hair cleaner than most people do. My cousin has been a dread since he was a kid in Jamaica and even when he was living in a fucked tenement in the middle of Mandeville he cleaned his hair daily.
Do the research!

I can understand not 'getting it' in a fashion sense, but surely you know the religious meanings ?Why even bother with the hassle? i dont get it really
Rastafari wear dreads as an expression of inner spirituality. For them, the term "dread" refers to a "fear of the Lord", expressed in part as alienation from the perceived decadence and other evils of contemporary society and a return to the Covenant with the Almighty, Jah Rastafari.
Another interpretation among the Rastafari is that "dread" refers to the fear dreadlocked Mau Mau warriors inspired among the colonial British.
Although Emperor Haile Sellassie I did not wear the locks, dreadlocks on a Rasta's head are symbolic of the Lion of Judah which is sometimes centered on the Ethiopian Flag. Rastas hold that Selassie is a direct descendant of the Israelite Tribe of Judah through the lineage of Kings of Israel David and Solomon, and that he is also the Lion of Judah mentioned in the Book of Revelation.

Picture the scene:
Group of dreadlocked ravers who came to the rave, fucked on ket, expecting there to be gabba in the main room at Volks.
Dreadlocked Kethead 1 - "Where's the gabba man, this stuff is, like, well slow man."
Dreadlocked Kethead 2 - "Yeah man, yeah. Well slow, who are these arty people man, I guess Honey Club shut early, ha ha ha"
Dreadlocked Kethead 1 - "Ha ha, yeah man totally. Let's rave though man, yah!"
I had the misfortune of standing behind these two fuckheads for a short period of time, and after having a mouthful of DK1's hair once, and a dipping of DK2's hair in my pint twice, I got a bit pissed off.
I had dreads when I was a kid. My dad has dreads and a dreadlock beard. I've got nothing against people having dreads (except girls, it's not a good look at all), but WASH YOUR FUCKING HAIR PLEASE.
There was bare people with dreads at Volks last night, and most of them had the most offkey smelling hair ever. It's mustiest, grimiest smell I've ever experienced and it's hard to dodge a dutty piece of hair and beeswax when you're trying to skank.
For anyone on this forum who has dreads, please pay attention to what I'm writing. I don't want your dreads in my mouth or face, in my pint or bottle or anywhere else - ESPECIALLY if they're not clean!!

Big up my mum for trying to kill them, two bottles of nit lotion for one 11 year old kid. They definitely died, shame they didn't want to fall out of my fucking locks when they finally gave up the ghost though.
