Our election ended up giving the Conservative party a majority, with 39% of the vote... Nw we're going to be stuck in the ages of 'that is bad because the bible says it's bad...' and amazing legislature like mandatory minimum jail time if you are found with weed.... Given that the other options included electoral reform and legalization of weed you'd think most people would vote against the Conservatives...
Canada is quickly becoming the states. Pretty soon we're going to be blowing Obama for some fish sticks and salt water....

I find it hard to believe they'd be so strict on weed when it's your country's second largest export. You know best though.bigfootspartan wrote:Our election ended up giving the Conservative party a majority, with 39% of the vote... Aren't you lot soon to be ballin' anyway? I thought you'd found massive oil fields a while back.

It used to be pretty lax. If you got caught with quite a bit you were in trouble, but with a few grams it was usually alright. However, the right wing united a bunch of parties, and people who were completely uneducated on the issue figured they needed mandatory jail time to get people to stop using... And you're right, In British Columbia (one of our provinces here) it's actually the number one industry, more than logging or construction! We could make a killing off it!
There's some tar sands up north, but the problem is we don't quite have the technology to extract the oil efficiently. The right wingers all want to extract it now and ship it to the states, but we will end up losing money in the long run. Oil is just going to get more expensive, and if we can capitalize on the tar sands with some new extraction methods we'd be set for a while.
Oh well, guess that just means we're going to be living in a police state here for the next four years...

Thought the issue with the Canadian election is that hardly anyone actually turned out to vote?

Buy? Oh merciful heavens no, I haven't bought milk since I started at this company. I just take a pint home a day from one of the communal fridges.
Today, however, no skimmed.

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
Last election we had a 59% turnout, I heard this election was closer to 62%... Still pretty poor. The leftist party (NDP) got 31% of the popular vote, and the centrist party got 20% of the popular vote. I would much rather have seen a NDP/Liberal coalition than conservative majority. If you look up anything about the G8 summit you'll see how brutal he is. He ordered the cops to arrest anyone walking by an unmarked area. They arrested 1000 people and ended up only charging 20...
Although to be fair, we've never had a coalition here from what I know. I think I'd rather have that, although I don't know if it would be all I think it would be...
