Tight Thick Phat Squarey Bass

oh man not a "help me make this sound" thread

I love that sound, anyone else ever attempted to make it? I've had pretty good results with Massive's carbon wavetable and a camelcrusher but I can't seem to nail it
And my automation edits aren't ever that tight

sounds like a somewhat formant square? or not.

really sounds like some square on bend+ or bend- and the "Wicked" wavetable. im sure he is using the wicked wavetable since it has a very distinct sound like "modern talking" easy to notice if you have heard it a lot. also try scrapyard on bend+

i couldnt tell if it sounded like a formant or resampled to get that growl?

it may have some formant filtz(like a low intensity/intensity parameter at around 7 or 8 oclock) on one of the oscillators not sure how many he is using. i don't really think it is a resampled bassline since it sounds too clean to sound distorted or have any sort of distortion. may have some light disto not sure. experimenting is key as a lot of people will say but it's true.

also when i was experimenting i came up with a cool electro style lead that I will be using in a electrohouse tune soon :4:

Hypefiend:

yeah your prob right. u seem more knowledgeable on the subject than me. i just tweak knobs till i get a cool sound :6:

btw the initial drop in the first post sort of reminds me of the first drop in rusko - hold on (sub focus remix). do you think that very growley bass is resampled? iv been trying to get a similar sound and just cannot get that growl. sounds like he resampled godzilla into his bass lol

yeah some excellent ideas, I don't play with the bend parameters nearly as much as I should. I also have an awesome plugin for fattening, Airwindows density, probably mess with that too. I'll do some experimenting later today when I get out of class...any ideas on what's going on with the automation in that bassline though?

sounds like a formant acid bassline, lowpassed. Very little distortion (there's definitely some there though). Also sounds like the distortion is only applied to midrange,

Square, lowpass, distortion, phasing/flanging/chorus, play with the ideas.
Personally, I'd distort a little, low pass, keeep distorting, more, more, more, then lowpass again, then add the flange/chorus/phaser

i do not think it is that complicated. i mean it is zedd but I doubt he is splitting the frequencies just to distort the midrange. probably all done within massive. but then again I am not sure that is just my idea.

what is this foldback distortion you speak of, and how can i acquire it for FL? (tried googling :()

Maybe so, that's what works for me though haha.
I'd probably only use overdrive, turing the wetness of each instance pretty low.
It may seem a lot, but I find it good for building up and adding 'grit' to sounds, then the flange/chorus/phaser, I'd only pick one of the three, because as far as I can see, that's what it has in that tune tbh

reso once said, loads of small amounts work better than one large amount ;-)

he could be using izotope trash it allows your to distort a select frequence range rather then the whole lot

plug-in with different shaping functions such as hyperbolic tangent (tanh), arc tangent (atan), hard clipping, saturation, fold-back distortion, as well as sine (sin) and sinc (sin(x)/x). The amount of distortion is controlled by the gain of the amplification prior to applying the shaping function (pre gain). The output level can be adjusted with a post gain slider.
A clipper chops of the top of a wave. Iaw makes the wave flat.
A foldback distortion mirrors the top of the wave, the clip level is where the mirror is. Iaw the top of the wave is folded back.

You can see it best in the daw with a sine.

I know I saw that post but that's an AU, and since I am using FL it's not possible to use that plug as badly as i want to. I even tried compiling a synthmaker code i found on the FL forum but it doesn't do anything.

it sounds kind of like a sound in redlights steve aoki remix, i got a sound similar to it in predator before from some saw/horn preset low down the octaves
