MPK25 Midi Problem

Post by OlzaMK » Sat May 07, 2011 3:18 am

Good day DSF. Been a while.

I've been trying to figure this out since day one. But I can only get a few different buttons to work on my Midi controller. Ive been using the akai MPK25 for the past year and I have never figured out how to get them to work.

-Transport Controls

This is my biggest problem. Not being able to get the Stop, Play, Rec, etc. to work with my DAW. I am using ableton by the way.

Also does anyone know if there is a way to use the time division buttons as midi assignable buttons? Because they don't register in abletons midi mode either.

I noticed I could get the Transport controls to work when I used to use FL Studio and Reason. If anyone can shed some light that would be great.

Peace.

For transport, try this:

Hit the Play button, then hit Edit, then push in the knob labeled "Push to Enter". Try all of the various settings; MMC, MIDI, MMC/MIDI, and CTRL. Not sure which one works with Ableton, but I had to change this for my mpk to work in FL.

Also, the time division buttons should work assuming you don't have the actual "Time Division" button enabled. Hope this helps

I have tried all of them. The only way I can get results is when I set the transport controls to MIDI/MMC mode and I enable external midi sync mode in ableton.

The rewind, fast forward, stop and play work. The record doesn't and the play button changes the tap tempo button for some reason.

I figured out that I can map the transport controls and the time division buttons now with the external midi sync. Everything is working out good, the only problem now is that the play button acts as a weird dysfunctional tap tempo button and keeps changing the master tempo of the song.

Any input would be ace right now.

Also I noticed when you map anything to the transport controls the second after you stop holding the button down it automatically stops.

Eg: setting the play button to the 1/16 division button just only makes the song play until I stop holding the button down.

This has probably already been done. But, have you tried going into midi map mode in ableton and making sure that the play button wasnt accidently mapped to control the tempo? I dont have an mpk but my buddy does. It seems to work fine on his laptop. If all else fails, try looking in your manual on how to do a full reset. If that doesnt work, you might just have to map everything manually and it will probably take a while.
