I want to make the sound in Blood Red by Feed Me that starts at :56. I'm a noob at production, and I'm sure that there's an easy way to do it, but I can't seem to find it out

The sound flying towards you is probably the Doppler effect. Im not sure what plugins do this, have a google and look on kvr. The noise in feedme track sounds like an organ with really wet chorus and/or leslie simulation and some glitch/buffer fx.

i don't mean to sound like an ass, but that's not how you make that feed me sound. he synthesizes it, the bass in cloudburn is better though.
but, i don't know how to do it. the closest i've come is using my access virus or massive, using the wavetables, automating those and effects like chorus/phaser/etc. of course, using the wavetables like deepthroat m-talk, or other vocal sounding waveforms on the virus.

Not sure which part of the sound at 0:56 you mean but the bottom part sounds like an organ low passed with some chorus and dblue glitch on it. The top part sounds like maybe a square and a saw slightly detuned with some bitcrushing and slight reverb on it.

Try to take a mixture of square waves (one down an octave and volume down a bit) then in the amp envelope, go for a very short attack (almost immediate), then a decent decay and the decay level RIGHT down
Maybe play around with the oscillator wave and wavetable along with ring modding and phasing and see what you come up with for a more unique sound
After that you want to layer it with some strings with the same amp envelope settings
In Massive it looks something like this (it won't be exactly right as I wasn't listening to the song when I did it):

also do you know of any producers that strictly use reason for dubstep, i've only been producing for 7 months and i dont want to bring in any Vst's because i'll most likely mess up my work flow.

I don't think you can get far at this if you haven't played Legend of Zelda.

There are not a lot of producers that STRICTLY use Reason for Dubstep, but to mention a few: Cookie monsta, Hizzle guy, Dismantle.Estondo wrote:i use reason 4 and im looking for a lead synth something like this

Actually, learning the ropes in Reason is pretty good as it has a very low learning curve IMO.
On the contrary, I recommend you use a different DAW in combination with Reason, for example ReWire it in Ableton or Logic.
As for your question, Skrillex is known for his extensive use of automation.
Trying to make exact the same sound as someone else is a great exercise for developing your own trademark as well as it is great for your production in general.
Oh and I don't have a clue how he made that sound, sorry, but I do know that the Thor instance is capable of creating Skrillex's sounds. (doh)

As for my own question: (sorry for making 3 posts ): )
As some of you might know, I've been trying to recreate the so-called 'dungeon' sound for a while now.
Well, I actually figured out how to make it to a certain extent, I think detuned squares and filter automation is an important part, but most 'dungeon' artists seem to have their sound design a lot further.
Artists like Sleeper, Thelem, Crisp etc can really make their sounds 'alive' as if some mutated alien-egg is hatched 1 km below the surface.
I just mention these artists so you know which sound I mean, I do not wish to copy their songs
So basically, my question is: how can I make these things sound more like they do in good songs?
1. Will a z-plane filter help?
I'm pretty noobish when it comes to filtering and/or FM Synthesis and I do not if a z-plane filter is even possible to reproduce in Reason, but I didn't find any z-plane plugins for Ableton either.
Wub already explained the essentials of a fore mentioned filter, but I'm having a hard time translating his instructions into Reason.
I don't even know if a z-plane filter will help. In a song like 'Scanners' by Sleeper, it looks more like he's using Sugar Bytes WOW filter with a low gain to open the filter just a tiny bit.
2. Are pitch bends the key?
I'm able to recreate sounds like in Foreseen by Freeze & LX ONE, but that has more to do with envelopes rather than pitch bend automation.
However, in tracks like 'Distilled' by Thelem, he seems to use the same type of bassline, yet it creates a different atmosphere each time you hear it in the song.
My wannabe-dungeon bassline I can make in Reason isn't very 'pitchable', as the sub will get very loud when I pitch it up.
When I pitch it down, the bassline starts to stutter. Is this because I use detuned squares as a start or is there a thing in one of my other devices which edit the bassline not set properly?
3. Are overdriven filters necessary?
I also use to overdrive my LP filters a lot. I don't really know why, as I'm still learning about this kinda stuff, but I found out it helps producing the sound I want.
Besides these overdriven filters, I still need to use several Scream 4 units to make it sound more interesting.
Okay, things are getting out of hand here, I could think of a million other questions I'd like to ask, but I will wait for the answers on these first and ofc try to contribute to this new topic!

but i would really like to know how to get a similar sound to the gritty, acidy sound heard here at 0:59
i've got two saw waves, res about halfway up but i'm missing the grittiness, is there distortion needed in there?
