Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)
Excellent film. Has, possibly, the best theme of all time.
Got a smoke?

How is it a Kung Fu film if there is no Kung Fu in it? It's a martial arts film.
So whats that kata hes doing at :14?

Come the fuck on, have any of you ever trained? I feel like I'm shouting at children on a playground right now.capo ultra wrote:Isn't Kung Fu Chinese Martial Arts, as in not at all what Tony Jaa does. Tony Jaa is a Muay Thai guy through and through
It's like the new Karate Kid film should have been called Kung Fu Kid, not Karate Kid, the style is the film is Chinese not Japanese

no no your totally right, Jackie Chan doesn't know what he's talking boutborrowed wrote:Come the fuck on, have any of you ever trained? apology acceptedNo, in going to China, it had to be kung fu. And we just had to figure out how to make people understand that we know China is kung fu and karate is Japan. And we decided to keep the title because when you see the movie, you'll understand that it is a stigma. They are teasing him by calling him the karate kid. That's why it made total sense to us. In the movie, also the mom who doesn't really know the difference, she says, 'didn't you like that karate class?' And he goes, 'it's not karate mom.' So we all know it's kung fu. For me the big difference physically, was that in karate, there is a lot of the mechanical, this and that and you can just rehearse things over an over again. Kung fu is a lot more of a ballet. So when we came up with the jacket on, jacket off thing, there are like twelve moves buried in one single swooping move. And that's what I loved about the whole idea, that you can learn one thing and what you discover is that you've actually learned twelve different kung fu moves within that one little thing.
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

It's Thai martial art, can't remember the name atm. And to be extra picky, 'Kata' is a Japanese word and wouldn't be used in the context of Kung Fu.borrowed wrote:Yeah?Motorway to Roswell wrote:He doesn't do Kung Fu.borrowed wrote:....and kung fuMotorway to Roswell wrote: Tony Jaa does taekwondo and muay thai.

I agree. I saw this in the cinema in 3D and it was one of the most RAAAAAAAAWR cinema experiences ever. Like you were properly inside a comic book. Came out feeling like we were coming up on mandy.

No, it's not Muay Thai. I know he does Muay Thai but the form he does in that clip is from something else... I'll get back to you.Motorway to Roswell wrote:Muay Thai

It's Muay Boran which means ancient boxing. It's the forefather of Muay Thai but essentially it's 'Muay Thai extra'.Motorway to Roswell wrote:Ah, ok. Cheers.cityzen wrote:No, it's not Muay Thai. In fact, if you watch the Muay Boran movements, it's clear this is what Tony Jaa is doing in his films.
Watch this from 5:13...

Thank you for clarifying that you have, in fact, never stepped foot in a ring or gym.capo ultra wrote:no no your totally right, Jackie Chan doesn't know what he's talking boutborrowed wrote:Come the fuck on, have any of you ever trained?
