Would you believe I never even realised my H1 had a line in XD

EDIT: Gonna unashamedly hijack your thread here, do you have much experience with the Zooms in built microphones? Whenever I've tried to use mine there is nasty background white noise that I can't seem to get rid of no matter what level I set the sensitivity to :\

I've gotten some decent results with it. I find it works best when you record loud sounds on low sensivity and get it peaking as close to 0dB as possible. This way you don't need to normalize and thus making the noise louder.

Ofcourse it's not possible to do this with all soundsources. With the quieter ones I use Auditions noise removal tool. Audacity or any other decent audio editor should have this too. You need to a very very silent place to record just the noise as your noise profile. Think i've done mine around 50-55 sensitivity. The noise removal does not wrok always tho, if often messes up the quieter parts of the recording, but it helps quite alot tho. The binaural samples had noise too, and for most of them i've used the same technique and they came out good.

You've got to experiment a bit, see which sensivity works best for a certain sound. I've usually got mine beween, 40 and 55. For very loud stuff around 30. I've found that going outside with it is usually a no go. Even the slightest breeze will mess up your recording. The foam windscreen, which comes with the accessories pack is useless too. I've build my own furry windscreen, which works very well. Brought the wind noise back by a good 500% or more.

If you have any more questions, let me know.

Yeah I usually use Audacity to do noise removal but I find it weakens the sound I wanted to keep too. Maybe I haven't been taking long enough sections to get the noise profile.
Think I probably need to think about the sensitivity a bit more with regards to what I'm trying to record rather than trying to find a holy grail one I can use for everything.

I think a few seconds should be enough for the noise profile. The better the noise profile, the better the removal results. A little noise isnt that bad tho, it will barely be noticable in a mix.
