oh don't get me wrong. i am a smoker and i find it a bit oppressive to be in a smoky bar. that and i don't think anyone should have to suffocate so i can get my fix. but saying that alcohol affects no one but the one drinking it is ignoring reality as well. obviously not QUITE the same, but ya can't say that alcohol is only an issue for the drinker (vomit, violence, drunken driving, belligerence, sexually inappropriate behavior...pick one). the difference is that one is a direct route to someone's lungs and one is a behavioral effect that spreads outward. but i think each is equally destructive in their own way.dak attak wrote:it's not ironic, its peoples choice to buy drinks at the bar but you can't choose to not breathe in other peoples smoke...its been law in NZ for a while too and everyone had the same reaction, its going to bring business down rah rah but really all it means is that people go outside when they have a cigarette. but yeah you're right dublinstep, it does change the culture a bit too all these people hanging outside the clubs...you can hear people easier when you talk to themsapphic_beats wrote:i just find it funny that BARS (serving alcohol, which kills people pretty well too) have smoking bans. they are doing it all over here in the US too, and the irony is just inescapable.
although the nice thing is, less smoke in the building means more lung power, which means longer marathon skankin' sessions.
